Round houses a new fad in English architecture
Round houses are the latest fad in England promising cheapness warmth and utility. Four houses were built for Mr Barber Starkey at Knock Shannock Scotland as shooting lodges not embellished with bay windows or porches. Starkey's two story dwelling features a central hall with a gallery access to bedrooms and a conical roof with a lantern providing light to the hall and attached stables built on the same plan.

Very Large Bank Checks Highlight Early 1900s Finance
The New York Times notes the era’s giant checks in Wall Street banking. Examples include a $17 million check via Kuhn, Loeb on National City Bank cleared May 26, 1900 for Morton Trist. A second $17.5 million check on Bank of Commerce was collected directly by Morton Trust. Earlier, on February 21, 1901, a $25,127,000 check by J.P. Morgan & Co. on First National Bank cleared directly. A $14,890,000 Mercantile Trust check aided Union Pacific’s Southern Pacific stock purchase, and a $21,500,000 Lake Shore Reading stock payment stands as a near record.

New Electric Device Aids Water Search For Wells
A Washington report says a compact electrical instrument detects subterranean water by vibrations. Tour-like seismograph action reveals presence, volume and direction of underground streams, aiding farmers and irrigators to locate wells. Officials of the Geological Survey will test the device further, noting it may later help find oil, though oil vibrations are weaker.
