Peter Weiner, a German native and early Custer county pioneer, died in Challis on Wednesday February 19 1896 at 11 a m aged 76 after a throat illness. His death came quietly after a period of illness. The funeral was held the following Friday afternoon.

Deputy Sheriff Fenton, visiting from Hailey, seeks Paul P. Lawson who walked from Blaine County jail last summer. Lawson, once sentenced to hang for killing a man in Custer County, vanished after a moonlit escape and has been seen in six states. Fenton vows to bring him to Custer if confronted.

Snowbound Mail and Valentine Ball in Custer Idaho

Custer Idaho February 16 1896 the Guster Stage Line struggles under deep soft snow with mail deliveries by snowshoe. Custer and Bonanza held a St Valentine ball but horses could not progress so attendees walked to the event and enjoyed the evening with Lee gained by Mr and Mrs McCarthy. William Bowen bought Geo Laundrys in Faulkner s saloon and New Years illuminations in Chinese quarters used lanterns and candles pleasing the Celestial mind.

Challis Public School Event Ends Week of Learning

An entertainment at the L O O F hall in Challis marked the closing of the school term. Miss R A Harnett and Miss Edna West led a program honoring Washingtons Birthday. The hall was crowded, the crowd gave hearty encores, and the four hour event praised Challis students and teachers. Citizens are urged to support better school facilities at future elections.
