Robert Bell writes in the Mining and Scientific Press about Thunder Mountain in central Idaho. The Salmon River Railroad extension could open vast undeveloped mining fields with rich gold deposits, copper shows, and extensive rhyolite porphyry zones including the Dewey group. Routes from Mackay or Challis offer improved access, with early travel via lower passes and varying mineral districts promising a mineral empire and profitable traffic.
The annual Missionary Society gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Howell’s home last Wednesday evening featured a pleasant program led by President Mrs. Cameron. Mrs. Dodge’s illness prevented the anthem. Mrs. Waters delivered a near real life recitation. offerings totaled 29.65. Cake and ice cream delighted guests, and sales by Miss Sullivan of Clayton Miss Keenan Mr. Reed and Mr. Nickerson followed. About sixty members attended and all wished for another similar evening soon.
The Challis Instar Omnium Literary Society held a Friday meeting at the Court House with a large audience. After roll call and minutes, the program featured Braeurs Utopian Orchestra, recitation by Sara Keener, and a solo by Mable Strand. The group decided to give no more public entertainments due to light membership, with future work to be set by the Executive Committee.
