Short Line to Build Idaho Extension Seeks Houston Challis Route

The Salt Lake Herald reports the Oregon Short Line plans a wide Idaho railroad expansion. Surveyors have proposed an initial Houston segment with a direct Blackfoot to Houston alignment, then Challis and Salmon City as next steps. The project promises new freight traffic, mining and farming development, and potential conflicts with the Idaho Midland route along Salmon River and Blackbird copper districts.

Sudden Death of Ferdinan Kiug in Challis

Ferdinan Kiug, a 63 year old Challis resident and German native, died suddenly last Tuesday morning the 11th. Found in bed by his children, he was a respected and industrious citizen. Funeral held from the church on Wednesday the 12th. He leaves a wife, three sons in Challis, and two daughters in Pocatello.
