William Buster of Challis reports locating a natural reservoir near Garden Creek headwaters and naming it Garden Lake. He holds a state permit to convey lake waters via Garden Creek channels for a desert entry by Mrs. Wm. Buster and John Q. Adams, situating about 15 miles west of Challis. The lake is 8000 feet in circumference, 45 feet deep at the deepest point, and 15 feet at the shallowest, fed by snows and springs in a volcanic basin. Buster plans a tunnel and control works to release water as needed, reserving flow for low creek water periods.
