Stage line offers daily first class service between Challis and Mackay the nearest railroad point and Three Forks on the Thunder Mountain route. Stages arrive in Challis at 4 a.m. depart at 6 p.m. carrying passengers mail and express with mining connections to Custer and Lemhi counties. QO. V. Hansen Manager J. P. Spalding Agent Challis.
A scathing historical appeal urges Filipinos to visit the United States to witness a nation described as free yet rife with vice and corruption. It lists rampant issues such as brothels, poverty, political hypocrisy, and social injustices, contrasting idealized liberty with a chaotic society. Spokane August 6 Harry Tracy the outlaw is dead in Davenport. A posse and citizens pursued him after terrorizing Eddy ranch occupants. Tracy was shot behind a rock and crawled 75 yards before dying by a self-inflicted gunshot after a leg wound and loss of blood. Sheriff Cudihee identified him at the inquest.
At the Republican county convention held in Challis last Saturday August 9th delegates were elected to the State convention in Boise City August 20 Wares Darlington J C Fox J F Hendricks and Robert Bell named as delegates to Boise.
Stanley reports a fish and game warden need, the Stanley dredge and placer ground sold with 5000 dollars paid. A horse theft at Valley Creek mine ends with a rustler fleeing after selling the pair for forty. Capt. Bryan returns with M A Ballinger as bond on Mountain Girl claims. Cattlemen move herds toward Cape Horn for grazing.
Notice records a settler’s intention to prove land occupancy and cultivation before U S Commissioner F H Johnston at Challis Idaho on September 2. Witnesses named include John W Stephens, Charles Funkhouse, Jonathan Job, and others.
