The 1901 Assessment Roll for Custer County, corrected by the Board of Equalization, lists total property value at 762 148 with real estate 373 961 and personal property including cattle horses and mining interests. It notes economic activity around Mackay Houston and Challis with rail prospects mills and mines, plus local births marriages and legal notices and recent civic updates.
The Stanley dredge continues work as about 60 000 sheep graze in Stanley Country until October when they will be driven to the Short Line railroad and shipped east. Reports from Snake River, Rocky and Atlanta claim activity as M J Stohrer’s trade remains steady. At Robinson Bar a field of white clover has replaced red clover, two feet tall, thickly covering 20 acres with an expected 40 tons of hay, sparking notes of a possible new clover species.
