Doylestown Group Seeks Civic Organization Ties

A six member Rittman Civic Association delegation led by President Charles Ward met Doylestown business and professional men last Thursday to discuss forming a similar group. Ernest Harrison C E Rhone mus spoke for Rittman. Ed Elsass Ralph Krabill and Hugh Strickland joined. The proposed four mile gravel road project between Rittman and Doylestown drew strong praise as an eagerly awaited improvement.

Mrs Huffman Rites To Be Held Friday

Funeral services for Mrs Annie Huffman 88 widow of Craft Huffman will be Friday at 2 p m at Murray Funeral Home with Rev W R Plough officiating. A Sharon Pennsylvania native, she came to Creston in 1900 and is survived by four daughters Mrs Millie Mangle and Mrs Rock of Cleveland two sons Leo and Andrew of Creston and a son James Bogard of Creston.

Rittman Opens Grid Season With Orrville Rivalry

Rittman School Board Approves Equipment Upgrades Mon

Rittman board of education approved extensive expenditures for the home economics and commercial departments. Four Woodstock typewriters were bought for the commercial shop, now with 20 machines, while home economics plans four complete units with stoves worktables and sinks. M R Ritter C B Shook Homer Ferrer and Miss Madeline Bixel chaired the committee seeking prices for two stoves, new flooring, four sinks and work tables plus a breakfast table. Twenty five students have signed up for home economics though only 16 can be accommodated. Gas leak corrections were completed on the high school building. The band received two bass horns and repairs to instruments were approved.

Civic Association Sets Date For Banquet Meeting

Rittman Civic Association set Tuesday October 3 as the annual dinner and officer election date during September’s meeting at City Hall with 15 members present. President Charles Ward named a nominating and auditing committee and dinner and entertainment were assigned to two members. A tree planting plan was approved and a joint recommendation with the Rittman Garden Club to add more trees was to be brought to village council. The Homecoming report showed expenditures of 330.57 dollars excluding merchant merchandise, with village council contributing about 20 dollars. the event was deemed a success and a summer community picnic was suggested. Labor Day will likely host the next Homecoming fair, with many visitors from nearby communities touring local factories.

New 4000 HP boiler installed at Ritman plant

The Ohio Salt Co announced a new 4000 horsepower traveling grate stoker boiler in a rebuilt building expansion in Ritman. The project, costing over 150000, includes a heavy steel stack 106 feet high, four large drums, and about 1000 welded tubes. Training and equipment installation follow in October with full operation by early fall.

President William Everhard stated in his Wadsworth office that the plant’s new boiler stack fulfills a lifelong ambition to see a silver stack completed. The stack reportedly cost about $7,000 and the interview noted the achievement.
