Kansas farmer Senator Arthur Capper argues transport costs cripple wheat profits. He notes 22 cents a bushel freight to Chicago versus about 80 cents net per bushel, railroad rates rising while bread costs climb, urging a national highway system to shift reliance from rail to road and ease the transportation problem.
The Press reports joining the National Highways association, membership number 8453. It aims to print weekly articles under a map device cut to support the good roads program as charted by the association.
A Klan meeting occurred last Thursday evening on the Hoover farm. A parade led by the local band formed on the square and proceeded to the meeting site where a national speaker delivered the address. About 78 machines followed the procession past the Pastime Theatre, and the parade reportedly involved around 600 participants.
Fred H. Caley of the National Motorists Association outlines a push at the Cleveland convention for coast to coast emergency road service. He cites membership as the key obstacle and argues clubs should partner with reliable repairers to provide 24hour help without cost to members.

Waste paper drives in Wadsworth and Rittman raise funds for furnishings, with a collection next Saturday morning September 16.
A. L. Ebert and brother begin a long automobile trip from Rittman toward the Ozark mountains to hunt game. Mrs. Ebert plans to visit in St Louis with her sister while Alton is joined by Horatio in the pursuit. The journey involves rugged terrain beyond 30 miles from roads, reached on donkeyback with a guide.
Rittman grows as a fruit center with ventures at Fruitlawn owned by Vance Hickin and his brother Dr F W Hickin. The Rittman Orchards Co. operates the region’s largest 146 acre young orchard near town, supervised by Dr Hickin.
Mr and Mrs J B Galehouse will depart this week for a one month stay in Colorado and Wyoming. He has a sister in Wyoming and a brother in Denver whom he has not seen for about 15 years.
A benefit baseball game will be played next Sunday at the local diamond between Rittman and Maysville. Proceeds go to Catcher Hauenstein of the Maysville team, who was recently injured by a ball from pitcher Schaad and is now recovering.
Wooster College reports total enrollment of 846 students this year, up from 807 last year. The college is noted as a leading eastern institution with broad recognition beyond Wooster.

Mr and Mrs Howard Friedt of Seconds entertained a company of friends at dinner Sunday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Roy Yoder and John Lerch of Woor ter, Mr and Mrs Daniel Mumaw and Mr and Mrs David Zook of Orr ville. The host and hostess led the group.
At a Milman Presbyterian church meeting, architect H R Mitchell outlined remodeling plans adding a north wing, 12 foot east addition, four new rooms, pulpit and chair space, a modern kitchen, and a heater upgrade to raise seating to about 826. The project, budgeted at 45000, aims for completion in summer 1924 to expand community service.
A lawn party near the residence of Dr and Mrs F W Uwilabin was held last Saturday. Japanese lanterns lit the yard as young people toasted marshmallows and wieners around a bonfire. Guests included Gertrude Hickin and Albert Hickin along with Iris Hierr Roma Mougey Dorothy Lance and others as they wished the graduates well for the upcoming school year.
Rittman and nearby towns are billed for a Modern Woodmen of America carnival and Rittman band concert in Tttman Park Saturday evening. The event promises an improved carnival and new music from the band including late overtures and fox trots.
Tuesday of this week Mr Gust Goffinet left Akron with a party for New York City from which he will sail to visit his old home town in France He will visit four sisters and a brother in law at various places in France before returning.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jester welcomed a daughter on September 2. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haldeman now of Seville welcomed a daughter on September 3. Mr. and Mrs. Don Marr welcomed a daughter on September 7. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bodager welcomed a daughter on September 8. Mr. and Mrs. John Hartzler welcomed a son in September.
Under the will of the late President Warren G Harding Mrs Florence Kling Harding is named the principal beneficiary The will was filed recently by Attorney General Harry Daugherty in the matter of the former president’s estate
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Snyder completed a six week honeymoon returning from eastern points. They traveled from Jersey City to Cleveland, arriving this Wednesday, as news notes their first trip home.
Don Wright of Creston, a well known Rittman resident, narrowly escaped death Saturday when his four wheel drive car collided with a C B car just south of Creston. Wright, returning from a slaughter house, suffered head and facial injuries with minor back bruises. His accompanying brother also sustained head and facial cuts.
