A Seville festival of arts sponsored by the Seville Ministerial Association runs November 9 to 16 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Acme. Entry blanks available from Seville Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist churches, Jerusalem Lutheran, or libraries in Wadsworth, Seville, Creston and Rittman. Writing and music entries due October 12. Printing and sculpture entries due October 16.
Patricia Stebbins of Creston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stebbins, a Norwayne High School senior, received a letter of commendation for high performance on the 1969 National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
Mrs M Jordan named Star Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and will be installed in December at a special meeting. New officers include Mrs Jay Rohrer associate matron and Jay Rohrer associate patron, with Mrs William Forrer secretary and Mrs Don Jack Jameson treasurer.
The W. H. Hauenstein Chapter of Future Teachers of America held an October meeting at Rittman High School library on Tuesday October 7. President Sara Wright and VP Kathy Mullins led a candle light service as 22 new members were initiated.
The Paper Drive by Boy Scout Troop 410 is slated for Saturday afternoon October 18 with pickup across Rittman. Contacts include Jim Rohrer George Rastorfer and Bob Grygotis for arrangements. Members discussed work suggestions and Open House volunteer names for the Rittman school system.
Rittman PTA plans bake sales on Tuesday October 21 during open house at North Street and First Street Schools. Proceeds support PTA activities.
The Friendly Mothers Club will meet Monday November 3 at 8 pm at the American Legion Home. Mrs Mabel LeMaster will host a toy party. Twelve members and one guest Mrs David Whitacker attended a recent meeting at Rittman Savings Bank social rooms. A cosmetic demonstration by Mrs Terry Snyder of Akron accompanied a cosmetics demo. Members will help solicit for United Fund. Refreshments were served by Mrs Lester Reid and Mrs Duane Acker.
The American Legion will hold a fish fry on Tuesday October 21 at the American Legion Home. Serving runs 5 30 to 8 p m with take out orders available after 5 p m.
Six art students were named winners in the local Fire Prevention Week poster contest held in Rittman. First prize went to Eugene Brickey and Daryl Rastorfer, with Frank Booth and Melody Wheeler earning second prize and Jenni Imhoff and Randy Moore third. Five received honorable mention. Posters were displayed at West's Clothing store and judged by Russell Muzyczka.
Barbara Bobbie Jones named Sweetheart of Alpha Theta at Ashland College. She, a senior set to graduate in January with a degree in education, will participate in homecoming activities on Saturday October 25. Daughter of Mrs. Rollin Jones of 29 West Ohio, she previously studied at Greenbriar Junior College in Lewisburg West Virginia and attended Rittman schools.
The annual Scout Uniform Exchange offers Brownie and Girl Scout items for exchange or sale this Saturday from 10 to 12 noon at the Junior Achievement Building Hall. Belts, ties, books and any Scouting item will be accepted. prices should be marked, organizers say.
Rittman Grand Squares sponsor a Western style square dance on Saturday October 25 from 8 to 11 pm at Rittman High School. Dick Mackey of Wooster will be caller. Mr and Mrs Bob Biggins and Mr and Mrs Ralph Van Nostran lead arrangements. Spectators are invited to watch.
Garden Club of Rit t named Kenneth Osborne president at a meeting held at the Osborne home. Nineteen members and two guests, Mr and Mrs A J Grant, attended. Officers include vice president Mrs Ralph Rock secretary Mrs Ken Osborne and assistant secretary Mrs Ruth Longworth. Slides of Puerto Rico were shown by the Grants and refreshments were served by the hostess.
