Fall Festival Chautauqua Set for High School Auditorium

Final arrangements complete for the Fall Festival Chautauqua at the High School Auditorium. Sponsored by local businessmen, proceeds aid schools. Interstate Bureau of Chicago, Ed W Bayer, arrives to organize ticket sales and supervise the program. Twenty five high school students to lead a season ticket drive. Lucille Elmore Reva Company to perform a varied program with comedy songs impersonations and dance, plus a Dr Powe lecture. Season tickets priced 4.00 adults 1.00 students and are on sale at Rexall drug stores Be seroup and other outlets. Festival runs Nov 25 26 28 29 30 at 8 pm. Supt Garver available for information. continuous fundraising and entertainment for the community.

Local Grangers Complete Seventh Degree Initiation

Twenty nine Grange members from the county received the seventh degree in a mass initiation at the National Grange session in Cleveland’s Public Auditorium. Delegates Ernest McConnell and Emmel Rickenbaugh attended for the county, with 264 delegates and alternates at roll call and a spectator audience of 10 000 to 15 000. This was the largest class initiated at one time.

Mrs Clyde Spain Improves After Illness at Home

Mrs Clyde Spain, long ill at her Fourth Street home, is much improved and plans to travel to Wooster for another treatment. Dr Douglas is expected to perform the next operation.

John Bender, mayor-elect, reflects on his arrival to Rittman 29 years ago this Thanksgiving from west near Copley. He joined Ohio Salt Co. as a laborer earning 1.50 a day for 10 hours and watched Rittman grow from a mere hamlet into a miniature city while recalling other stories in his garage office on Main.

Special Session of School Board Examines Poll Books

The School Board met in special session Monday to review poll books from the recent election. Afterward an appeal for using a high school gym for an American Legion event was discussed. Legion members want a basketball league this winter modeled after last fall’s playground baseball program. no action taken, but favorable notes on the proposition were reported.

Village Council Passes New Salary Ordinance For Officers

Monday night the village council approved an ordinance setting fixed salaries for mayor marshal and other officers replacing old fee based pay. Mayor salary raised to 900 per year with 600 bond. marshal to 366 monthly. council members bond 100 with 2000 stipend for gas and meetings. Public works funds and road repairs announced with several streets to receive immediate attention.
