Orrville youth charged with murder in shooting of Saunders

Edward Gerhart, 20, faces a first degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of Lee Saunders, 30, near Orrville. Saunders had just been released from jail after a six month sentence. Gerhart admits firing the shotgun, claiming no intent to kill until Saunders provoked him. The couple Virginia Gerhart and Saunders had tensions amid a family dispute over their marriage, with Virginia living with her parents prior to the incident.

Funeral set for Olive Knepper after rail tragedy

Rev William Plough officiated at the Wooster funeral for 13 year old Olive Knepper killed by an eastbound freight train near Pennsylvania Station. Rittman Drainage Ditch Project Approved

County Commissioners approved drainage work to channel the old Chippewa Creek into a new ditch starting at a culvert just south of the R. E. Kirkpetrick residence. The plan intended to use manual labor under the County Welfare department with about 1000 feet extended. workers would support Rittman’s relief effort.
