Booster Festival Offers $600 In Prizes At Rittman Event

Prizes totaling nearly 600 dollars are donated by Rittman merchants for a Booster Festival at the high school football field on August 8. Chet Haulk chairs the event aided by Charles Wald John Wenger Herald Mongey and Ralph Overholt. Advance ticket sales will precede a grand prize drawing. A June 28 two hour concert on the square features a 30 piece Akron local of the American Federation of Musicians free to the public. The Booster club also plans to give away one of George Pfaltzgraf's colts at the festival.

Graduation Exercises Held for Seniors at Rittman High

Dr. Paul H. Fall of Hiram College urged graduates to strive to be free men in a world effort. Thirty seven diplomas were awarded including six servicemen. Joan Rolph, Martha Zollinger, Richard Grant, Owen Haxton, Marvin Hummel and William Ritter received scholarships. The board announced plans for a new elementary building within eight months.

Births at Wadsworth Hospital May Dates

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clare Amstutz on Sunday May 11 at Wadsworth hospital. Ora Lance was born Thursday May 22, followed by Jack Wenner on Friday May 23. A son arrived for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Malcuit on Wednesday May 14. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jay Huff on Sunday May 25 at Wadsworth hospital.

High Water Brings Sewer Troubles Back To Council

Heavy weekend rains flood the council meeting as residents press for sewer relief. Village engineer C B Parrott says two electric pumps may be needed after the Thomas Drain Co finishes cleaning the sewers. A pending congressional bill and a county dredge petition are discussed to fund a full survey and river dredging efforts.

Memorial Day Parade and Cemetery Program Planned Friday

Memorial Day events led by Ernest Woodall will begin at 10 a.m. in Rittman with a parade from Gordon's garage to the square. The lineup includes the high school band, color guard, Star Mothers, American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Navy Mothers, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts, followed by Legionnaires and veterans. After the parade, a cemetery program will feature flag raising, invocations, Lincoln address by Mrs. L. L. Kimsey, Judge Art Limbach as principal speaker, and a three-shot firing salute, then a Navy Memorial observance with wreaths and rifle salute.

Elsie Heffelman 48 Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Elsie Heffelman of Rittman, 48, died Monday at 5 a.m. at the family home on North Main Street after a 13 year battle with a spine injury and cirrhosis. Survived by husband Charles F., Rittman chief of police, son M. Charger of Doylestown, Alfred Burger of Shaker Heights, William Burger of Massillon, and three sisters. Requiem high mass set for Thursday at St Annes Church with Rev. J. T. Farrell officiating. Burial in Rittman cemetery. Funeral home in charge.

Rains Bring Severe Flooding Across Wooster Area

Sunday records show 1.38 inches at the Wooster Experiment Station boosting May total to 4.92 inches and reducing the year’s deficit to 0.59 inches. Heavy rain flooded lowlands south of Rittman with water around Hile’s garage and Frye’s Furniture. Brookfield unit surrounded and residents waded in and out.
