Miss Maxine Kime, Ashland college student and daughter of Mr and Mrs Verne Kime, partnered with Miss Bernice Berkhelser for a recital in the college chapel on May 20. The program opened with Beethovens Sonata Pathetique, included Chopin etudes, Liszt and Carpenter pieces, and featured dramatic readings such as The Night Watch. Berkhelser also delivered a witty Cat sketch, while Kime played in the high school orchestra and is noted as a 1930 graduate.

Colored Singers Entertain At Presbyterian Church
The Cleveland colored singers performed a 40 minute program of Negro Spirituals at the Presbyterian church on Sunday. They broadcast from WGAR Cleveland at 5 15 prior to the 7 30 service and left early to present another program. The Plow Song from Green Pastures and a sermon by Rev Hendrickson were noted as highlights of the abbreviated service.

Girl Scout Picnic Sets Awards in Central Park
Twenty scouts three visitors and Misses Alice and Iris Hiers held a picnic in Central Park Wednesday at 5 p m to replace the regular meeting. After supper a court of awards was held in a big horseshoe Iris Hiers presented badges including Second class to Ethel Mae Hershey and Margaret Swartz Scholarship merit to Swartz Health to Winner Citizenship and Girl Scout Neighbor to Elizabeth Shackleford Games and taps ended the meeting.

Memorial Day Ceremony Planned for Saturday May 30

Mrs Charles Hummell Dies At Easton
Mrs Charles Hummell died Wednesday morning at 2 o clock in Easton after a long illness with neuritis and nervous troubles. She was 56 years old and would have turned 57 with September. She leaves her husband daughter Hilda two stepchildren and two stepsons Clyde and Roscoe Hammell of Rittman are noted as step relatives Funeral services will be held at the United Brethren church Easton Friday at 2 pm with burial in Easton cemetery. She lived in and near Rittman about 14 years before moving to Easton two years ago and was a member of the Pythian Sisters.

Police Notes From Alison Area Highlight Minor Offenses
Stanley Sulrax of Alison Pennsylvania was arrested by Mills and fined fifty dollars plus costs for carrying concealed weapons. Clarence Baster pled guilty on May 23 to driving over a village fire hose and breaking it, fined one dollar. Garsuck was arrested Monday for a traffic violation and fined two dollars.

Visitors watched 10 monkeys in a new cage perform hanging tricks in the park. A bear roams its cage while spectators feed and watch the animals. shrubs and fish ponds decorate the park as flowers bloom in the shade.

Daughters of Velorone visit the Mother Tent Friday May 22 for the 29th anniversary of Wooster Tent No 17. Over 200 members and three old comrades attended a six o clock dinner and meeting with guests from Mansfield Orrville and Bredrickaburg. The next regular meeting is set for June 6 with a White Elephant sale and lunch. Memorial services are planned Saturday at 10 am at the hall.

Rittman Grange Schedules Degrees After Transfer
The Rittman Grange held its regular meeting on Friday May 22 with Mr and Mrs Simson transferred from Homerville Grange. A special meeting is planned for May 29 to award first and second degrees on June 6 and third and fourth degrees on June 12. Rittman Student Wins Chemistry Scholarship at Heidelberg
Donald Yochheim was the sole Rittman entrant in a Heidelberg College chemistry scholarship contest. He won first place and the $100 scholarship will be applied to tuition. The exam occurred Saturday May 16 and he plans to enter Heidelberg this fall.
