Hire Engineer To Start Sewage Plant In Rittman

Rittman council hired E D Barstow of Cuyahoga Falls to push the sewage disposal project and seek state and federal approvals. A Sept 27 1952 permit deadline under a new state law threatens $500 daily fines if not obtained. Barstow will report May 26 on revised costs while coordinating with the State Pollution Board and Defense Production Authority.

Rittman Band Ends Year With Community Events

Band director and Mrs Lester Eckart hosted a year end gathering at their home near Crystal Lake. Seven carloads of band members and guests were chauffeured by W Hauenstein and others. A May gathering followed with 40 band members and 20 guests at a Band Mothers Club supper in the new cafeteria.

Ev United Brethren elects officers at meeting

The Ev United Brethren chair elected officers last Wednesday led by John Collins as president and Miss Marjory Schumacher as secretary. Raymond Snyder became treasurer, Russel Breiner the librarian, Mrs. Willia Baker and Mrs. John Walker on the music committee, and Mrs. James Scott on the floral committee.

Band Mothers Elect Mrs. Mass Trogdon President 1952 53

Band Mothers' Club chose Mrs. Mass Trogdon as president for 1952 53 at its final meeting after the Band banquet. Officers elected include Mars Tracy Shook vice president Mrs Wilford Blatter secretary Mrs Don Hess assistant secretary Mrs Ray Armbrust treasurer and Mrs Asa Boyes assistant treasurer.

May Festival Set at Rittman High School Auditorium

The annual May Festival will be held at the Rittman high school auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday with Miss Norma Campbell crowned May Queen by last year’s queen Miss Dana Bean. The program features the high school band and chorus presenting the four seasons and a finale of The Battle Hymn of the Republic under Mrs Robert Davis and Lester Eckart.

Route 94 repair plan discussed by Rittman Chamber

The Rittman Chamber of Commerce committee heard District Highway Engineer Joseph Tomsic outline a Fall application of T-35 hot tar and gravel to Route 94 south of Rittman to Route 5 after recent holes appeared in the surface. Attendees included C E Rhonemus and J M Hile among others as authorities consider also repairing Route 94 north of Rittman to Wadsworth.

Ed Musser Resigns as Rittman Cemetery Superintendent

Ed Musser submitted a letter resigning as cemetery superintendent to the Rittman city council. The Cemetery Board will collect applications for the post, with the council preferring a caretaker over a full superintendent. C B Shook, Cemetery Board chairman, is accepting applications.

Plans for $150,000 building and street widening

Wilson plans a brick building on a lot 88 by 150 feet and seeks to buy a 12 foot strip from R V Fredric to gain 100 feet of frontage for four to five store rooms. He will deed frontage to the city for Sheldon Avenue street widening at the city's shared cost. Walter Johnson to estimate widening costs on Sheldon and North Main Street to improve safety.

Mrs Edw Ramsier Heads Legion Auxiliary

Mrs Edward Ramsier was elected president of the American Legion Auxiliary at Legion Home last Monday. Other officers named include Rollin Jones first vice president John Hodovan Jr second vice president Donald J Glassner corresponding secretary Stanley Tuska recording secretary and Frank Daniel treasurer. The nominating committee was chaired by Mrs Boyd Miller with members Mrs Ray Prosser and Mrs John Winkler. Rehabilitation expenses totaled 706.07 and child welfare expenses 166.15. A ventilating fan for the kitchen was authorized. Poppy chairman Mrs R G Young urged attendance at the pep meeting May 22 and the Gold Star Mothers Tea in Orrville May 20. Delegates Janet Maine and Carolyn Duskey were chosen for Girls State.

Eastern Stars Hold Reception For 151

The Rittman Chapter No. 529 Eastern Star held a May reception at Milton Presbyterian Church with 161 in attendance. Officers led by Mrs Calea Blanton welcomed Deputy Grand Matron Mrs Kindig who praised the chapter. Mrs Williams performed select songs as May Day honors and a dining reception followed. Next meeting May 22 will feature instruction and star point honors.
