Taylor Grays Triumph Over Local Team at League Park

Before a large crowd the Taylors defeated our local boys at League Park on Sunday. Turner injured his ankle, Halliwell and Dull assisted in the field, and Shelby led with home runs and four hits. Pitchers Shook and Owens held the locals to six runs as Akron fans cheered from the stands. Attendance 240.

Wreck of B. and O. Freight at Sterling

A westbound B and O freight at Sterling derailed Monday night after striking the derail at 30 mph. The engineer awoke just before impact and escaped unharmed. Wreck crews from Akron and Chicago Junction reinstated the engine on Tuesday with only a severe shaking up reported.

Joint Meeting Reaches Plan on District Territory Split

At a joint Rittman and township education board meeting residents debated the district’s territory outside Rittman. The McConnell plan to keep outside areas in the township while paying tuition to the village district was approved unanimously after discussion led by Ernest McConnell.

Marshal Schorger Visits Washington

Marshal Schorger travels to Washington to pursue postal issues for Rittman citizens. He meets with Representative Ashbrook and gains access to the House lobby to witness the tariff bill's passage before returning home.

Wayne County Rural Carriers Plan August Wooster Meeting

The Wayne County rural postmen 51 strong plan to attend the state association gathering in Wooster the first week of August. Ohio has 2 530 rural boys many active and represented by delegates to meet postal officials from Washington.

Village School Board Organizes First Meeting and Appointments

The village forms its first school board electing Dr R Hagerman as president and RE Faber as clerk. Members include D R Lance AS Petit and Chas EL King. The board extends the school term to eight months and reelects Prof C W Clousen at 1008 dollars. J B Lambert as janitor.

Residential Construction Boom on Ohio Main Sterling Aves

Ground is broken for J J Gannon and Thomas Lewis homes on Ohio Avenue and for Dr Toland and Mrs Schneider on Main Street. A rear lot home for Mrs Schneider is up, Win A Shook on State Street is being enclosed, and Ray Ashbrook's Ohio Avenue house is enclosed. Dwellings on Sterling Avenue show various completion stages, Beithler block on Main Street nearing occupancy and a garage roof ready on Dr Totamd property. Paul Geiser on Sterling, W G Spade on Main, and Bauman’s six residences on East Ohio are noted among many others. Despite activity, housing supply remains short. The boxboard plant addition floors are under concrete work.

Rittman High School Commencement and Baccalaureate Notices

Commencement exercises will be held Wednesday evening May 21 at the U B church with Dr D Lee Fitzpatrick delivering the class address good music and admission 15 and 20 cents Baccalaureate sermon Sunday May 18 at the Presbyterian church by Rev J B Hobart W H Baker has moved from Rigman to Indianapolis Indiana.
