Rittman Students Excel in State Scholarship Contest

Rittman pupils competed in the State Scholarship event at Kenton on May 5, achieving the best records in school history. Most awards went to top-ten finishers in eight subjects. nine of fourteen exempted village groups entered. Local students faced limited chemistry participation due to no class, with 23 of 24 entrants earning certificates and the school receiving a second-place certificate in the exempted village class. Wayne County and Wooster led local standings.

Youth Pleads Guilty On Charge of Intoxication

Arnold Lively nineteen of Front street pleaded guilty in Mayor Snyder's court to intoxication and disorderly conduct. A five dollar fine plus costs was imposed but suspended after he was found intoxicated Saturday night by Marshal Morgan who ordered him home. A bystander Walter Keating assisted in taking Lively to jail. The more serious charge of resisting an officer was not pressed.

Hold Rites For Father Of Mrs. Hubert Kaufman

Funeral services were held Tuesday for William Fritz at his home five miles north of Wooster. He died Sunday. Surviving are his wife two daughters Mrs Kaufman and Abe Ross Weygandt Wooster and Gen John Fritz of Salt Lake City Utah.

Joseph Whitcher reports at the North Central association meeting in Chicago in April 1821 that 239 of OhFy’s 811 schools were unqualifiedly recommended. Rittman High School is listed among the unqualifiedly recommended. Fitcher chairs the state Department of Education committee.

Handbill Ordinance Passed By Council

A council committee led by Charles Boating and James Gale approved ordinances on handbill distribution. One ordinance sets a fee of $4 per advertiser for circulars and another imposes $10 for “Matshad ator” use of private property for public duties. The council plans a motor vehicle inquiry and James Dowd begins interviews with residents to improve streets and collect $2 from each to fund street improvements.

Sale to be held at the courthouse Saturday afternoon for 3428 158. New car sales in Warne county in April totaled 158 with aged cars at 480. March 1934 registrations exceeded 100. Chevrolet Ford and Plymouth led the counts with a 29 decline in April. Twenty nine people remained in county jail during the month. A total of 488 meals were served with an average cost of about 16 cents.

A man identified as Saminten, Dovlegiasyn, was arrested Saturday night on an intoxication charge and jailed in Doyfestown. He reportedly attended a party and returned to a home where alleged progress was made.

Crowds filled the public square Saturday for the first drawing under the Roar of Trades Commercial Division. Rittman Members Named On County Red Cross Board

Twenty one Scouts Initiated at Camp Manatee

Scoutmaster Kime Franklin Bradshaw led Troop 406 through a Saturday night initiation with 21 scouts including James Snyder, James Miller, and John Steiner. Local merchants donated milk and meat, mothers and friends contributed generously, as Kenneth Forrer and Jack Jones earned Tenderfoot status.
