War Bond Pledge Drive Aims Yearly Community Rally

A county wide campaign to canvass every resident for war bond pledges launches in Wayne County under Francis Hillen of Wooster with C. E. Rhonemus as local chairman. By early next week the organization will begin a house to house drive to secure purchases deducted from wages and salaries.

War bond drive survey aims to enlist every citizen

A government sponsored canvass by the Ohio Mexboard Co and Ohio Salt Co seeks to secure from every citizen a plan to buy war stamps or bonds. Canvassers will approach households with stickers to ensure participation and regular payments as part of the national effort.

Share the Ride Clubs Urged to Save Rubber Drive Slow

Mayor John W Baldwin of Rirtman and Governor Bricker call Ohio motorists to slow travel not faster than 40 miles per hour on highways and within towns. They urge tire conservation amid wartime shortages, forming Share the Ride clubs and using cars only for essential travel to support the war effort.

General Motors workers back war bonds drive for victory

In ten days of the Drive for Victory campaign GM Employes Bond record shows 97 percent of 234,000 employees subscribed for $3 War Savings Bonds. The Women's Benefit Association pledges $000,000 over two years, investing funds to aid the country.

Diphtheria and Smallpox Immunization Continued

A high share of Wayne County children are immunized against diphtheria and vaccinated for small pox, but few of the younger preschool group received both. All children over six months not immune should get treatments. Immunizations will be given by local physicians at Marshallville, Doylestown, and Rittman locations and at the high school.

Teacher Loss Is School Board Problem Now

Rittman board of education discussed definite losses of one woman and two men teachers and possible losses of several others at Wednesday night meeting. New hires include Martha Hartzler to replace Mrs balance of term in second grade and Irvin Baumgartner leaving for Chicago course. Tom Thumb Wedding set for Friday in Rittman

Dress rehearsal completed Wednesday for the kindergarten event at Rittman High School auditorium. The Tom Thumb Wedding program starts Friday at 7:45 PM with admission 10 cents. Miss Ira Smith asks parents to be seated early for a prompt curtain and a reception follows in the school. Invitations were sent by the home economics department under Miss Madeline Bixel.

National Headquarters notes the February 16 group will be distributed with remaining Class I-A registrants from prior rolls. Wayne County Sees Second Casualty In Naval Loss

Wayne County added a second casualty in the war when Navy officials announced that James Hixon of southwest Wooster was lost when the ship he served on wrecked off Newtor’s coast weeks ago. The first death was Leonard Rice, 23, son of James C. Rice of Ailtman, who died during Army maneuvers at Fort Bragg on April 10.
