Court Sends O’Higgins To Mansfield Reformatory
Leo O’Higgins of the Boyes gang was sentenced by the Wayne County Common Pleas Court to Mansfield Reformatory. He, 20, had confessed to involvement in the Barnes robbery last November. The court also sent Robert I. Thomas to probation for study and a report. Thomas is remembered as a former Columbus policeman who drew a gun after a crash near Easton.

May Day Track Meet set for RHS field
Rittman junior high boys from grades seven through twelve compete for ribbons at the May Day Track Meet Thursday afternoon at the high school field 3345. Events include 50 75 100 220 440 and 880 yard dashes and 440 880 yard relays. No boy enters more than four events and two classes separate entries Class A for grades ten through twelve and Class B for seven through nine. Ribbons awarded to first and second place in each event.

Doylestown Boys Die After Test Driving Farm Truck
Two Doylestown high school youths, Robert McKee 15 and Robert Klopfenstein 18, died after testing a repaired farm truck Wednesday evening. Klopfenstein was active in the Boy Scouts and church. McKee survived by his parents, a brother Thomas, and four grandparents. Services were held at Monbaren Funeral Home with Rev. A. M. Burkhardt officiating. burial followed.

Robert Klopfenstein, junior class member and varsity football player, belonged to Trinity Evans Reformed Church of Wadsworth and was survived by his parents and an older brother. Funeral services were held at Wadsworth church Saturday with interment at Wadsworth Cemetery.

Dog Becomes Eyes Of Sightless Man In Lancaster Dog School Graduation
Butch the boxer trained as guide dog for George Spurgeon of Rittman who went blind three years ago. The pair met in Lancaster months ago and walked Rittman Main St. in their first solo outing. Dr A M Jamison funded the dog and Mrs Ruth Meyer led the training with her husband. Spurgeon’s sister, herself blind, is a Lancaster dog school graduate. The school operates six similar programs nationwide.

Five Area Men To Go On Navy Cruise May 15
Five area men from Rittman and Doylestown depart May 15 for a two week training cruise aboard the USS Olsen, a destroyer escort. They will report to Philadelphia for assignment and train at the Naval Surface Reserve Training Center in Akron. The Rittman men are James Seitgey 19 N State St, Thomas Wayne Blackwell 187 E Sunset Dr, and Paul Raymond Ball 844 West Hill. From Doylestown are William David Fouty Box 291 and Joseph Carroll Williams Box 229. All five are part time reservists in the Akron program, joining a growing Naval Reserve. They receive one training night per week and pay.

Clarence K. Douzles 50 of Dalton died suddenly Friday morning at his home. He was a life resident, coal dealer, and trucker. First Class Train Ride For Rittman Students
The Rittman school district sent 245 first to third graders on a B and O Rail road trip. Students traveled by bus to Akron to board a Shenandoah passenger train, which stopped in Rittman. C. C. Valentine, B&O local agent, arranged the trip noting eight in ten had never ridden a train before.
