Milton Presbyterian Church Welcomes 41 New Members

The Milton Presbyterian Church reported 41 new members since 1921 after a revival stretched over several days. The morning service featured baptism and communion while an evening illustrated lecture on Christ in Galilee accompanied the sermon. Attendance records were set in Sunday School and the Christian Endeavor Society contest ended with the Reds losing to the Blues in a social event.

Rittman Pledge Members Dine At Young's Hotel

About 20 couples from the Rittman pledge group and their wives attended a supper and dance at Young's hotel near Barberton on Thursday night, instead of the planned 50 couples from Sterling and Rittman due to rain. The attendees reportedly paid $2.50 per plate and danced late into the night.

Man feigns self harm after love rebuff in Rittman

A married woman in Rittman heard a single boarder declare his love unreturned and later pretended to cut himself with a knife. He staged the wounds to gain sympathy, but the bluff drew gossip and ridicule from acquaintances.

Widow of Smithville restaurateur dies after double pneumonia

Mrs Elizabeth Huegle, mother of Alex Huegle of Rittman, died Friday night at her daughter's home four miles north of Smithville. She was about 66, born in Switzerland, a widow, with three sons and one daughter surviving. Funeral at the daughter’s home Tuesday at 1 PM with burial in Steiner cemetery. Alex Huegle closed his Redman business place days after the death.

Unusual Prohibition Raids Spark Ohio Towns

In Ohio near Rittman two notable prohibition raids drew wide attention. Rev William Anderson’s McKinley Heights home in Youngstown yielded two stills and ten gallons of raisin jack and he was jailed. In Willard 36 officers raided many spots, arresting fourteen on liquor and other charges, including a marshal’s son for a long-ago pouch theft containing $19,000 in liberty bonds.

Neighbors and friends, 62 in number, gathered March 19 at the Halderbaums in Rittman to bid them farewell prior to moving to Michigan after 11 years in town.
