Superintendent Hauenstein speaks at Atlantic City convention as local events span anniversaries births and club activities. Readers hear reports of hospital stays, family celebrations, and meetings from Three Arts Club to Lions Club, with community members visiting Beallsville and nearby areas.
Five local groups United Fund Rittman Wadsworth Area Hospital Committee Chamber of Commerce Rittman Area Industrial Development Corporation and the Rittman Relief Board established a permanent headquarters in the old telephone building at 14 East Ohio Avenue. The Ohio Central Telephone Company furnished the space rent free and will use basement and top floor for storage. Roy Moffett touted the move as a step toward more efficient services with a new board of managers guiding policy.
Private services will be held this afternoon at Gillman Haines Mineral Home for Walter W. Schwartz 80 of Pasadena California former Rittman resident who died in Altadena after a long illness. He retired in 1948 from Ohio Boxboard Company shipping. Survived by three sons James Howard Harold 20 grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Burial in Rittman Cemetery. Contributions requested to heart or cancer fund.

An 18 year old Orrville resident confessed to stealing $10 from Murray's Bakery on North Main Street during a late Tuesday night break in. Entrance was gained by breaking a plate glass window in the rear of the store. Police Chief Merle Heffelman and Patrolman Sam Strimlan investigated the incident.
Packaging Corporation of America releases a monthly PCA Newsletter. The four page edition covers employee news and plant production updates, distributed to PCA employees last week.
Rittman City Council backed the Planning Commission on a complete interchange north of town to serve north and southbound traffic for the proposed Route 94. They aim for two onramps and two offramps, with Salt Street improvements costing about 200000. The group also declined removal of 30 minute parking signs near the C S Restaurant.
Holly L Starcher family lost belongings in a fire at 43 Fairlawn Avenue. Red Cross, coworkers, relatives and local firms provided clothing, funds and temporary housing on Elliott Street. Kristen Jo, 14 months, was burned but treated and released. no other injuries. Cause undetermined. homeowners insured.
Rittman Recreation Advisory Council seeks volunteers for the Easter Egg project. On Wednesday April 10 at 9 am eggs are prepared at American Legion Hill and later on Saturday April 13 the hunt closes the event with prizes.
The Rittman Board of Education asks voters at the May primary to approve a 20 mill operating levy, 16.6 renewal and 3.4 increase, for five years. They hope state aid will rise in two years to support curriculum and staffing. A board member notes they do not want to stay status quo.
The School Board approves a longer school day for grades 7 through 12 next year, adding 38 minutes. Lunch periods shrink from 55 to 30 minutes and the afternoon recess shifts to 343. Classes are extended to accommodate rising enrollments.
The Garden Club will present its May Flower Show at Rittman Public Library on May 4 and 5. Bulbs azaleas and gloves will be sold. Mrs Mvrile Beck of Seville will judge. The club also hosted a meeting with a program on Azaleas and care tips.
