Council Updates Front Street Sewer and Local Resolutions

Village engineer C B Parrett reported Front Street sewer is adequate with no obstructions after state health checks. Residents protested sewer conditions and urged options like a parallel line or separate plant for Rittman Packing. Only one bid for Fairlawn Ave area sewers at 4929 dollars was approved. Railroad steps to ease S Main Street crossing noted.

Red Cross drive in Rittman tops goal by $300

The final Red Cross collection in Rittman reached 1454.10 on the drive with nearly 50 solicitors participating. The goal was 1200 and three solicitors had not yet reported, leaving room for final total near 1500. Steering committee members include Mrs. Bodager Mrs. Fisher Mrs. West Mrs. Ritter and Mrs. Adams.

Dances End Saturday At City Hall Teens Dance Series

The first in a series of Saturday night dances for teenagers at City Hall will be held this Saturday March 29. Sponsored by the Ujons club the final dance will have Mr and Mrs Howard House as chaperons.

Runaway Team Dragged Alber Woyat for Miles

A runaway team dragged Alber Woyat of south of Rittman for almost three quarters of a mile Tuesday evening. He suffered deep lacerations and bruises and was taken to Wadsworth hospital by ambulance after bulldozers helped clear a path. He remains under care of Dr. O J Shong and faces several weeks in the hospital.

The Girls' Sextette welcomes new member Ethel Mae Coffman as they rehearse a program for Wooster on March 28 for the Eastern Star. Nancy Heiks sings for Connie Steiner. an Easter assembly is planned with the Chorus performing two numbers.

Over 270 students teachers and staff were examined Thursday forenoon when the Mobile X-ray Unit visited our high school.

Canton American Legion Post 44 defeated Rittman 52 to 42 in the district semifinals in Canton. Rittman ends the season with 18 wins and six losses as Canton’s depth and skill leave the Legion team eliminated from the district tourney.

At a Saturday Farmers Sportsmen Association meeting Melvin Emca was elected president and Avery Kinch hosted guests including Walter Frye national director of the Isaac Walton League and H A Bible county game protector. A hunting field chase is planned for June 15 with a trap shooting event set for next fall. Discussions covered crow hunting and pheasant propagation amid restocking difficulties due to scarce cover and cleared fence rows.

March Blizzard Paralyzes Rittman Traffic and Schools

A fierce March blizzard and 60 mph winds battered Rittman and northern Ohio from Monday into midweek. Roads were impassable, power lines fell, and many residents and schools faced closures while limited services slowly resumed by Wednesday night.

The Altman high school basketball team and staff will be honored by the Lions Club Monday at the Legion Home for a successful season. Judge Abner Zook will speak on It's Wonderful To Be Alive.
