Indians Clinch Sectional Title In Wooster Tourney

Rittman High Indians defeated Burbank High 50 to 33 to win the sectional Class B basketball tournament at Wooster Saturday. The Indians beat Savannah 46 to 28 and Seville 43 to 31 to reach the final. Both Rittman and Burbank advance to the Kent District state tournament starting Friday with semifinals Saturday.

Boarding House Meals Exempt From Sales Tax

The Ohio Tax Commission rules that boarding houses are private residences where meals are served to residents for a fee and not hotels or restaurants. Tourist homes are private residences with lodging and meals for transients. Operators of boarding houses and tourist homes will not collect tax on meals for boarders but pay tax on tangible personal property they purchase.

Reserve Power and Light reports a rate restructuring for Sterling village. The service charge drops to 150 with a 200 replace and new kilowatt steps set 0.5 1.0 3 cents per kilowatt. First 40 kW at 0.5 cents and next 20 kW at 1 cent, over 60 kW at 3 cents. 25 kW now 3.30. 100 kW old 7.60 now 45.30. 200 kW old 13.40 now 8.40. Applies to Sterling electric rates only, not street lighting. Street tax for lights halved for two years. next year’s rate depends on fund surplus.

George Vukelich Placed on Probation in Wooster Court

George Vukelich of Rittman is placed on two years’ probation by Judge Walter J. Mougey in Wooster common pleas court. He had served eight and a half months of a one-year term for house burglary and the remainder was suspended for good behavior. He pleaded guilty after arraignment and used time in jail to study an art correspondence course with creditable progress.

Pheasants Released in County by Izaak Walton League

The county game officials released 25 pheasants between Rittman and Sterling during winter and 16 mature birds between Rittman and Easton a few days earlier. John H. Wisher signed for the pheasants, and the Izaak Walton League aided the effort. Merchants who sold licenses without pay are praised.
