Rittman Telephone Co to Build Exchange Building

At the annual Millersburg meeting the M. W & O Telephone Co re elected directors and officers. The board approved erecting a two story exchange building at Ohioav and Main with second floor exchanges. Officers include C M Lovett president and M M Herron secretary. Directors list Frank Beam H W Cary Herron Troutman Steiner Griffith Brenneman Lovett Snyder. The Acme Stores project and new telephone building will reshape the Main Street vacant lot across from the post office and boost Rittman’s townscape.

Ex Sheriff Lautzenheiser Appointed Clerk of Courts

Death of Miss Alpha Armstrong left the clerk of courts post vacant. County commissioners, two Republicans and a Democrat, appointed former sheriff George Lautzenheiser to fill the unexpired term. Lautzenheiser is popular and well regarded in the county.

Mrs Carl Miller Improving After Rib Injury

Mrs Carl Miller, who fractured a rib during a coughing spell and was once in serious condition, is improving. The Millers are new residents of Rittman and their acquaintances express sincere sympathy.

Edward Gigandet Granted A Divorce

Edward Gigandet of this place was granted a divorce on Saturday by Judge Starn of the common pleas court. He was divorced from Opal Mae Gigandet on the grounds of gross neglect of duty. The case is familiar to Rittman residents and the Press will not rehearse the situation. Gigandet was represented by K E Hoover.

The Rittman Spencer squad fell to Mt Eaton 68 to 28 in the final of the Ashland college basketball AS5 tourney after earlier edging Spencer 33 6 to claim second place for the third straight year. Elmer S Landes of Wooster is appointed to the Federal Farm Lawn Board with a likely Washington residency and a high responsibility role.

A village dispute over notes held by a bank against the village, about 8000 dollars, was settled out of court after examination advised lifting the notes. The council may rescind the resolution and meet obligations while avoiding public controversy.

Rittman Ready for Creston Friday Rivalry Night

The Red and White varsity hosts Creston for the final home game of the season on the local high school court. The second teams from both schools will also play. The Red and White girls travel to Wadsworth to face the Wadsworth high school girls on the same night.

At a council chamber meeting, the board discussed meters and contracted about 100 Arctic Frostproof meters for use throughout the year as needed.

Former Rittman Man Passes Away in Florida

Harrison Trent formerly of Rittman died last Sunday at his Florida home. The death follows a long-time family move involving his wife and two sons Ariey and John. Born in Fort Gay West Virginia, he leaves relatives in Rittman and Fort Gay and was last living on a Florida tract of over 100 acres.

Local Gas Office Manager Resigns, Succession Named

Mr Snodgrass resigns as manager of the gas office effective March 20. Mr J H Dague of Lodi will succeed him. Snodgrass has been with the gas office two years and with Slaybaugh in plumbing before. He plans to move with his family to Columbus to resume plumbing work.
