Blood drive sets all-time donor record at 20 banks
A Wednesday blood drive across 20 banks raised 166 pints, the highest ever. Community members from Doylestown, Sterling, Creston and surrounding areas volunteered, with 63 workers aiding logistics at Legion Hall to ensure safety and efficiency. Despite strong turnout, 26 no-shows and 33 cancellations were noted as organizers plan the next drive in four months.

Rittman to Get One of 29 New Post Offices
Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield announced that Rittman will receive a new post office this year as part of 29 projects. Bids are to be sought by July 1, with the local building priced between 135000 and 152000 dollars. The 65 by 75 foot structure will be built under a lease purchase plan on land bought on West Ohio Avenue beside the Baptist church. the current lease expires this year.

In the Gary Dean Long second degree murder trial at Wadsworth nine of 12 state witnesses testified. They saw Long with a 22 caliber pistol during a struggle at the Triangle Drive-in on Dec 14, while Stewart was shot and fell. Stewart’s wife Bessie, a surprise witness, said she felt responsible for the fatal shooting.
