An Ohio youth Kenneth Whiteneck, then 18, saved his mother and a neighbor from drowning at Tod's Ford Creek near Wilmington in 1923. Firemen Roland Jones and Joe Walters aided his rescue. Kenneth later recovered from injuries, received two medals, and returned to work as a driver for Lenox Truck Co. The tale emerged via a classified card of thanks from Mrs. Whiteneck.

Rural Zoning Talk Moves Through Rittman Area
The Guy Planning Commission and surrounding township trustees met Tuesday at city hall to discuss rural zoning to protect property values from pit land use. Attendees included Caleb Blanton Avery Wagner and A W Hall from Wadsworth Township and Rittman officials F O Kanelli Ralph Overholt and Chas I Rohter. Wadsworth Township, north of Rittman in Medina County, had adopted a rural zoning ordinance in September 1950. Blanton planned to raise Milton Township zoning at the next trustees meeting.

Karl Gillman rolled a perfect 300 in the Community B League at the Rittman Recreation alleys, the first 300 in six years at the venue. The Lions Club bowler, with a 189 average, earned a $400–$500 prize package including a diamond ring and bowling gear, and became a member of the 700 Club of America.
