Registration for the fifth selective service during wartime will take place in Rittman at the office of Joseph Sherrick justice of the peace. Volunteers will register men ages 18 to 30 at designated times, Saturday June 27 from noon to 6 and Sunday June 30 from 7 am to 9 pm.
Orrville resident Lloyd Benglesdorf the 41 year old Orrville mechanic has been shifted into government work service linked to the occupational questionnaire from the third registration. He left for a Navy plant in Rhode Island where he will serve as inspector after seven years as maintenance head at the plant. He was interviewed by the U S Employment Office in Witte for placement consideration.
Private Steve Zivkovich son of Mrs Lillian Zivkovich of 120 Salt street Rittman is stationed at Oklahoma City Air Depot with the Army Air Corps on general duty. He previously served at Spartan School of Aeronautics Puisa Oklahoma before transfer.
John W. Gasho son of Andrew Gasho of Rittman Ohio begins a 146 week program at Navy Service Schools Great Lakes. Selection stems from recruit aptitude tests and upon graduation may join fleet sea duty or naval base instruction. About 20 percent earn petty officer rating on completion. The Navy offers 17 of 55 trades at Great Lakes.
National selective service headquarters announces 3 00 090 youths aged 18 19 and 20 who register on Saturday and Tuesday will receive their order numbers by birth date rather than a lottery. The June 20 cohort will be eligible for service and younger registrants will be called as they turn 20, with June 30 registrants assigned numbers by birth date.
John Miller, son of Mr and Mrs Herald Miller of S Park, left Cleveland Wednesday night to begin as an apprentice seaman in the Navy V-4 training program. He was among draftees scheduled for Rittman’s June 27 draft call but chose naval service instead.
Readiness shown for a Friday to Saturday carnival sponsored by the Knights of Pythias Pythian Sisters Boy Scouts and Volunteer Firemen. Music by the Leroy Boy Scout Band and Brewster Concert Band. By Saturday night two $25 U S war bonds will be awarded. Rittman Press reports 500 more tickets ordered Tuesday.
Charles W McBride a longtime cashier at Farmers' State Bank West Salem and charter member of James Stevenson Post No 499 West Salem seeks the office of Treasurer of the Ohio State Department of the American Legion. He served as Post Commander 1923 26 and 1926 33 and led Wayne County Council 1933 35. He held roles including Chef de Gare and 10th District Commander in 1928 39 and chairs the State Department Finance Committee. McBride entered WWI as a private rising to Sergeant First Class and is active in community and fraternal affairs. Wayne County Council endorsed him unanimously and he is expected to carry support from Wooster Post No 68 at the Canton convention August 16 17 18.
Rittman rationing chairman R. Stuwitl asked The Rittman Press to notify residents to obtain canning sugar permits before July 1. The office will stay open at City Hall Mayor's office from 1 30 to 4 30 Mondays through Fridays to issue permits.
Adam Myers, 102, died Saturday morning at the Wayne County Infirmary where he had been cared for during the last decade. Born in Germany May 9, 1932, he reached more than 102 years and had no survivors. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.
Frank Hickin formerly of Rittman is now at a C P 8 Camp in West Campton New Hampshire according to word from his Wooster draft board.
Two area residents were notified for draft induction into the army this Friday. The named individuals are Robert Yeager of Creston and Fred Flory of Burbank.
Recent draft board action in Wooster reclassified Albert Reber and Harold Krabill to Class 1-A. Reber resides at Creston R D 1 and Krabill's residence is also Creston R D 1.

The United Churches Vacation Bible School completes its three week course with a Friday picnic at the Cheest Factory grove and a 2:30 pm program at the Church of Christ. About 90 pupils participate. The evening program includes memory work, songs, and a life of Jesus portrayal. Hart is dean. teachers include Mrs Goodale and Miss Simpson.
M C Heller, Wayne County rationing coordinator, announces valid dates for war ration stamps No 4 good to June 27 for one pound, No 5 from June 28 to July 25 for two pounds, No 6 from July 26 to August 22 for two pounds. Industrial and Institutional users may obtain July and August allotments June 20 to July 5, home canners may apply for an adjustment to conserve fruit.
M. R. Beachy, who retired from farming and moved to S. Stafe street a year ago, accepts a parts manager role with Hugh L. Strickland Chevrolet and Buick. He spent two weeks at the new E. Ohio Avenue building learning the stock and updated methods since his early days in the auto industry.

Work will cover 20 feet curb to curb from Wright Street to Shook Limber Yard and from Chin Sail Co employees’ entrance to the rail switch near Industrial Street. City to arrange pump improvements at the sewage disposal plant and L A Branstetter named part time sewage plant superintendent.
Wesley Schnell 50 of Sterling R. D. dies at 7 a m Monday in a cow barn three miles northwest of Rittman from a 12 gauge shotgun. Coroner Lyman A Adair rules death by own action with no contributing causes. Survived by wife Grace and daughter Mrs Carl Bodager of Orrville. Burial at Sterling cemetery. services held Wednesday at Abert Funeral Home. Schnell had farmed in Milton Township 23 years, moving from Monroe County.
Vernon Keating son of Mr and Mrs Emirs Walters Restle Sorsmal Sr left Rittman by bus Tuesday for Columbus Mississippi where he is stationed at a pilots training field for Hudson bombers He is a sergeant in the corps of mechanics This is his first leave since October 1940 The Army Air Corps unit serves Hudson bombers built for British use He notes guards around the bomb sight and reports British pilots stationed there are homesick and unfriendly with American troops He also mentions a Massillon High School Tigers coach as the pilot he met during flying time.
