Salt St residents are told that the question of paving and widening Salt St will be discussed at the regular Village Council meeting Monday night. Representatives of the street's utility and service firms are invited to share opinions on widening and related changes.
Miss Marzie Mae Plymale daughter of Mr and Mrs Prentice Plymale and John Ward Conrad son of Mrs Flora Conrad were married Monday June 12 at 8 00 p m in the Church of God parsonage with Rev Albert Henry performing the ceremony.
Superintendent W. H. Hauenstein announced this week that Ruth Leaman of Creston is hired for second grade. A Manchester College graduate with an A B in education, she brings 14 years of teaching experience.
Walter Wilson was fined ten dollars with costs after a speeding violation.
W R Bryan was elected deputy district governor at the Lions Clubs state convention in Cincinnati. He now serves as president of Ogylestown Lions and is Zone Chairman in the district. A former teacher and school board member, he works for Goodyear in Akron.
Mr. and Mrs James Hule hosted Sunday dinner for Mr. and Mrs John Winkler and Mrs Alice Steiner as guests.
Nick Bostos son of Steve Bostos of 236 S Main St graduated from Kent State University on Saturday June 10 with a B S in Business Administration majoring in Personnel and Economics. He is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and served as Arrangement Chair for the Society for the Advancement of Management.
The Rittman Recreation Commission hired Rev. Carpenter to run daytime activities and James Van Gilder to oversee evening programs. Gilder led the way last year while Carpenter aims to expand activities at Central Park and promote more softball leagues for all ages. The commission plans a future meeting with the Park Board to discuss the new development.
Reports show gardens growing fast as Mrs. Haldi man picked peas and Mrs. Troxel shared giant strawberries. Police Chief Heffelman rescued a friendly stray dog from the streets to the dog catcher at City Hall. Kaiser the dog survived a bird shot injury and wore a “Handle with Care” label after recovering in a storeroom.
Russell W. Frey received a silver engraved gavel at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce Secretaries Assn. convention in Lima last Friday. The award honors his services as association president in 1932 and 1983.
Miss Joan Rolph was surprised with a bridal shower and dinner Tuesday at Mrs Ed Musser’s home. Eight girls from the Container Sales Office of the Ohio Boxboard Company attended, with a pastel floral centerpiece and place cards. After gifts, guests played canasta.
B A will hold a business meeting at Mrs Joe Walds home on State Street Tuesday June 27 All members are requested to attend. Friendship Class of the Church of Christ will host a weiner roast at Mrs Homer Stevens home Friday June 23 members to bring weiners and buns beverages provided. Young Women s Missionary Guild of the Church of Christ has postponed its meeting until further notice.
Fred Pede of Saltst, age 26 percent, was taken to Lodi Hospital on Wednesday June 14. He underwent an operation on Thursday and his condition is reported as fair.
Vacation Bible School opened at the First Brethren Church on Monday at 9 am with nearly 100 pupils enrolled. Rev. Charles Ashman Jr. is dean. Mrs Charles Stauch teaches beginners with Mrs Helen Lance as assistant.
Thirteen members of Rumtan Mothers Club attended their annual dinner Tuesday night at the Oaks at Chippewa Lake. They enjoyed home style chicken and heard Mrs. Jay Griffith thank her committees for a successful year. Bernice Fry won a 25c money making contest, turning in 500 dollars earned from popsicles sold two for five cents. After dinner, the group viewed Great Hangover at Medina theatre. charter member Mrs. Margaret Benek accompanied the group.
The North Main Street school building opened Monday at 9 am with an enrollment of 64 pupils. It is sponsored by Wesleyan Methodist Evangelical United Brethren and Mutual Presbyterian Churches and will operate this week and next. Mrs P. M Hawkins leads the Intermediate group replacing ill Rev. D. K. Freymeyer.
A list of gatherings includes Van Nostran Picnic on Sunday June 25 Gordon Reunion on Sunday July 2 Deneke Reunion on Sunday June 25 and McLain Reunion on Tuesday July 4 at small and large pavilions.
An automobile owned by John Mullett of Seneca Street Rittman stalled on a crossing at the B and O Camp Cars. While Mullett went for help the car was struck by a train. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Denver Conley of Seville on June 20 and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Ralph Christian of Creston on June 15.
Contract talks between Morton Salt Co and the employees union are nearing completion but no final statement has been issued by either side.
Helen Waterhouse, Akron Beacon Journal reporter, speaks to about 60 Lions and Dandelions at Legion Hall. She describes travel from Paris to Rome to Israel noting crowded towns and widespread poverty, communal living, and tension between orthodox Jews and new groups. Officers installed include Hauenstein, Griner, Landis, House, Hall, and new directors Dalby Watson. Corsages given to all ladies.
Mrs Treva Wirth of Sterling won the cookie baking contest sponsored by the Rittman Grange at their Friday night meeting on June 16. She advances to the County Contest. Mary Chase took second prize. A ruralized program featured group singing and a vocal solo.
Otterbein Guild of the Evangelical United Brethren Church met last Monday night at the home of Joan Rauchenberg. Roberta Bauman led the discussion on missionaries in Africa and refreshments of sandwiches ice cream cookies and punch were served.
