Fragmentary report describes a large explosion at the Diamond Match plant in Barberton Ohio near 745 this morning. The event damaged nearby areas and left unclear casualty details while investigators begin securing the site and assessing the extent of the blast.
Sunday on Sterling road between Sterling and Rittman the Ford coupe driven by Miss Louise Vetter and a Ford touring car driven by RK LL Noble collided near a bridge. Miss Vetter sustained slight bruises from the rollover while the Noble family escaped uninjured. Vetter car was more damaged with the deck and fenders broken.
At a city meeting in the council chambers Major Stimblefond and Clerk Heffleman presided. The session focused on a sidewalk ordinance requiring lot owners to build sidewalks under certain conditions and was adopted to compel reluctant owners along Third Street to construct sidewalks.
A large crowd gathered for the fourth annual community sale in Rittriman. Main street dealers lined the southern town and traffic was blocked along Salt of Wa as buyers flocked to attract bargains. Horses and other goods brought fair prices, with many satisfied buyers and merchants promoting attractive day specials. The next sale date has not yet been announced.
Joe Ponder bought a Jeffry automobile near Barberton and while touring south of Rittman he overturned the car. He previously had an accident about a year ago when his Maxwell was demolished on Ohio avenue crossing and was retruck by an Erie train. he escaped both incidents unharmed.
A community carnival planned for next Saturday evening at City Park promises to outdo past events. Proceeds fund a roof for the back stand and the tablan of the snark. The Rittman Band provides music while ice cream, cake, candies, hot dogs and other amusements are offered for a fun evening.
Summit county deputies raided the Travelers Inn near Barberton after neighbor complaints about loud nighttime activity. Six home brew bottles were seized for chemist testing while officers sought stronger liquor. Mike Rabitch, once operator of the Victory Cafe, faces orders to keep his ride out as the investigation continues.
Bert Campbell, a carpenter at the Ohio Salt Company, cut his calf with an adz while trimming timbers. The injury was a deep gash and he will be kept from work for a few days.
Rittman women joined classmates from Wadsworth and Barberton for a Federated Clubs charity party in Wadsworth. A large crowd gathered in two Highland avenue yards for cards and socializing, with Rittman and local guests praising the Wadsworth hosts.
The Mt Hermon Presbyterian church class hosted a Friday evening men’s rally with Creston and Jackson Bible class reps and about 86 attendees hearing a talk by Dr Wm Weir of Chicago. Weather kept a 40-person Geville delegation away, but special music and refreshments followed the devotional program.
A large crowd watched Goodyear Wingfoot Colored lose 4 to 5 to Rittman at the local field on Sunday afternoon. Rittman now has two losses in seven games, while Wingfoots have played 16 with three losses including the latest to Rittman. Fans enjoyed the contest.

LeRoy Craig and Miss Lucy Rudd were part of a Gypsy Tour outing from Wadsworth. Their motorcycle skidded on return near Grangeville, injuring Craig severely and lightly wounding Rudd.
Harry Shannon's Famous Players visit for one night on Friday June 28 at the Ball Park with a comedy drama Just Over The Hill and a strong band. The group will perform a noonday concert and an evening show on Main at the big tent on the Ball Park site.
Mr and Mrs Otto Klay report a westward tour from May 14 ending in California they deem unsuitable due to heat and drought. They plan to move back to Colorado near Fountain seeking land there at about $400 per acre and express desire to leave California quickly.
Stella Monroe and Josapha Jakubiain were married at St Ann's church in a June ceremony officiated by Rev Father Dummet. The couple, both well known in Rttain, will reside in Sterling where Jakubiain has a furnished home. A post wedding breakfast followed, and later that week friends gathered at the bride's home for a party and dance.
Sterling residents joined a reorganization plan to transfer to the Wayne County Red Cross, under the supervision of Executive Secretary Mrs Mary Robertson. The group will continue serial work and may use funds for local community needs under the new arrangement.
The Girl Scouts announce a Friday evening carnival at City Park on July 7 with a complete program of amusements and the Barberton Ladies' Band providing music for the event.
Wadneworth chapter of the Master Star Lodge ended its meetings for the season on Tuesday. The lodge will resume September 4, 1922 with a brief business session followed by entertainment. The Rittman group performed a playlet The love of a Bonnet directed by Mrs Harry Wels. Refreshments concluded the gathering with many Rittman residents in attendance.
The Akron Evening Times announces a daily puzzle offering a first prize of one thousand dollars in cash to the person who names objects in a picture that start with the letter S. The paper notes nationwide popularity and invites readers to participate for a chance at the prize.
Local and neighboring Woodmen units invited to a June 24 rally by Wadsworth Lodge. Arrangements aim to confer degrees on about fifty candidates, weather permitting, in a woods near Wadsworth or in Woodmen hall. Wooster team to assist. Rittman delegation expected to attend.
The htman Chautauqua association plans a meeting in the council room on Tuesday June 27 at 7 30 p m. Mr H D Efchmeyer the first advance man will be present and hopes for a large turnout to share program details and discuss local arrangements. Cc G Gregg President.
The Ladies' Aid of the Brethren church will hold a bake sale next Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Variety Store in the Realty Block.
