The Swartz Coffee Shop will occupy the Lance building corner of S Main and Saltsts, formerly Citizens Savings & Loan. Equipment is being installed, with a planned July opening. Managers will be Mr and Mrs M H Swartz, who ran Volunteer grocery in Seville for three years, living above the shop with daughters Eldeen Betty and Dorothy.

Fifteen Wayne County Men Named for June Draft Call
Fifteen Wayne County men almost all 18 are named for the June draft by Selective Service Board No 2. They include Glenn L. Smucker Herbert Adams Jr Norman E Gish and Robert E Bodager of Rittman Francis R Paridon and Gene E Speicher of Doylestown. They report June 28. Nineteen other men will report for pre induction physicals June 26. Nine conscientious objectors have been called to leave for three camps this week.

The Rittman Ration Board will issue by mail an emergency sugar ration of 15 pounds per family of more than one person. Clerks will complete this work this week and the issued tonnage will exhaust the current local quota. A new Cleveland OPA quota will bring up to eight pounds per person in coupons mailed to applicants.

Mil town Field Trials drew 114 dogs for Milton Farmers Sportsmen
More than 350 dog owners packed the Milton township Field Trials near Rittman Orchard for the Farmers-Sportsmen event. Avery Kinch announced winners across Senior Dog, Junior, and final heats with dogs from Rittman Kennels, Moore, Tanner, Workman and others.

S. Sgt. Ray Adkins Wounded in Germany Near Czech Border
S. Sgt. Ray Adkins, 21, was wounded in the right shoulder by shrapnel in Germany within 23 miles of the Czech border on April 14. He was hospitalized until May 17 and is presumed back with his unit, the 4th Armored Division of the Third Army. Adkins is survived by wife Dolly and their year-old son William, and worked at Permould Co. in Medina before enlistment.

Hickin Resigns as Rittman Postmaster After 11 Years
Robert J. Hickin resigns as Rittman postmaster effective June 8 after serving since April 1934. A June 19 letter from the First Assistant Postmaster General cites steps to appoint a successor, possibly naming an acting postmaster by August 1. The rural and city routes have expanded, and the office has grown with 70 percent more floor space and ten added years of service from armed forces veterans.
