The Parish Council of St Ann's Catholic Church met at Mrs. George Haller's home in Sterling Ohio on Monday evening. They discussed a card party to be held in City Hall on Tuesday evening June 24 and invited the public.
Lions International presented H L Davidson with the Master Key during dedication of a $3,000 war memorial building at Camp Chibiabos near Doylestown. The award honors securing 12 new members for the Rittman Lions Club in five years or less, a rare distinction with only 862 awarded.
Funeral services were held for Judith Shackleford ten month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Shackleford of 4203 15th Street Cleveland at Busch Funeral Home. Graveside rites followed at Rittman Cemetery. The infant died of pneumonia. She is survived by her parents an older sister and extended relatives.
Ezra and Miv Steiner celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at the family farm home with a buffet supper for immediate family and relatives from Akron Stow Wooster Ashland Wadsworth and Rittman.
Connie returns to Crum West Virginia after visiting Mr and Mrs Ben Cassidy for several weeks. Mrs Katie Kauffman of Akron visits at Mr Carl Oehler's home for a few days. Mrs Jim Cassidy meets daughter.
State Highway Patrol reports a Sterling incident where a 2 year old boy started a car while left in reverse, rolling across the street and injuring no one. The vehicle struck a Pupked car owned by John Aviio and then a parked car belonging to Woodrow Grossenbacher, with three cars damaged but no injuries.
Miss Ella Strawser of Delaware Ohio formerly of Rittman died and was buried at Delaware on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ohio Boxboard Co and the union will hold two union meetings this week at the high school to consider a negotiated contract. An agreement reached last Wednesday would raise pay with a 10 to 12 cent hourly boost plus three paid holidays July Fourth Labor Day and Christmas. If ratified the contract becomes retroactive to June 1 1947 and runs until June 1 1948.
The Booster club under Lawrence Wilmot announces a street dance after the band concert on the square next Saturday. A 30 piece band from Akron Local 24 will perform at 7:30 for about two hours. A drawing for a Palomino colt or cash value follows the concert. The agith side of the square will host the free street dance with an orchestra planned to provide music. Carl Bowen handles colt tickets and Wade Milford arranges the street dance.
