At commencement Jeanette Woyat watched her husband Ron Woyat award diplomas as their three year old Andy amused himself nearby. Andy was wedged under the bleachers until Fred Winkler Jr. gently lifted him to his mother. The town shares health, family, and anniversary notices including hospital stays, weddings, births, and birthdays with several local residents named and dates noted.

Federal officials reject hospital's minority hiring plan

Construction of the Wadsworth Rittman Area Hospital faces doubt after the Office of Equal Health Opportunity rejected the board's affirmative action plan for hiring African American workers. The federal rejection cites insufficient implementation details, delaying bids and work as unions reportedly resist supplying minority craftsmen.

Wayne County JVSD Hires Secretary Raises Salary Discusses Heating

Special meeting at Greene Junior High School in Smithville reviews a land purchase increase for the new district at 24 183 acres and 49 6 originally. Director Robert Zimpfer’s salary rises from 12000 to 13200 yearly. Barbara Yoho hired as secretary at 270 per month starting July 1. Vote on gas versus electric heating ends 4–4 with Robert West voting for gas. A special meeting will follow to review cost figures. Board also considers returning 600 to local districts but delays pending legality.

The Wayne County bookmobile will stop in Marshallville on Monday June 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The visit is part of the county outreach to provide library services to residents.

Strawberry festival set for June sixteenth at Central Park

Rittman Temple Corporation announces its annual strawberry festival in Central Park pavilion on Friday June 16. Serving from 5 30 to 7 30, fare includes burgers hot dogs and cheese sandwiches for extra charge. Admission for strawberries cake and ice cream coffee punch or milk is 1 for adults 50 cents for children ages 6 12. Hugh Strickland is chairman with Orla Houglan in charge of the event. Mrs William Forrer leads food with assistants Mrs Vernon Yoho Mrs Don Walker and Mrs Wayne Forrer.

Services were held for Carl S Rizor 79 of 193 North First Tuesday at Gillman Funeral Home Burial was in Rittman Cemetery Rizor died Saturday evening at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a week long illness He was born December 12 1887 in Glenmont Holmes County to Charles and Ellen Rizor and lived in Rittman sixty years He spent five years with Morton Salt Company as foreman and printer retired in 1954 He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church Surviving are a daughter Lauretta Veney a sister Agnes Mills two grandchildren and four great grandchildren His wife Leona died in 1962.

Hammond Elected President of Rittman Booster Club

Richard Hammond 40 West Liberty was elected president of the Rittman Booster Club. He plans an organization meeting to discuss a summer white elephant sale at Cleckener's Restaurant on Monday June 19 at 1 pm. Hammond is a real estate salesman and previously served as vice president. Kenneth Robbins was the prior president.

Three Fires Doused by Rittman Volunteers

Rittman firefighters battled three brush fires over the past week. The first warded off a woods blaze at West Sunset and North Metzger using a grass truck in a gulley. A second grass-fire at the city dump was extinguished after 10 a.m. Sunday. A third blaze occurred Tuesday at 11 10 a.m. on Route 504 just outside city limits.

Chamber Plans Seepwalker Sale and Summer Promotions

The Rittman Chamber of Commerce schedules a Sleepwalker Sale in August with two other summer promotions. Merchants will cooperate as dates are announced. A weekend vacation promotion drew a very good response, while complaints about North Main Street car wash conditions prompt an upcoming investigation. Work continues on a two color 16 page city brochure with 2000 copies funded half by Jaycees.

City Eyes 65 000 Fire Station Option On North Street Site

Rittman council nears a decision on a 30 day option to buy the William F. Davis Inc building at North City for 65000 with plans to use the older section as a fire station and the newer as police headquarters The plan includes swapping two city bought lots in the final deal and funding from current and next year budgets plus income tax receipts Three appraisers will determine fair value while residents on Salt Street complain of filth and a junk filled alley and dog issues near the B and O railroad line.

Carni Fair Promises Prizes and New Rides in Rittman

The Rittman Volunteer Fire Department announces its annual Carni Fair running July 26 to 29. Each night includes a prize drawing from 50 up to 500 dollars, with tickets on sale this week from firefighters. New rides and programs are promised, with proceeds funding better equipment and the Easter egg hunt.

UF Names Frye Campaign Chairman For 1967 68 Drive

UF chairman James W. Frye is named campaign head for the United Fund 1967 68. He calls a meeting on Tuesday July 18 at 7 30 at Rittman Savings Bank to set the coming year’s budget and announce drive dates and chairmen with Allan J. Broadhurst presiding.
