American Legion Auxiliary Holds Regular Session

The Auxiliary met in regular session in their rooms on Monday evening. The president reported the Poppy Sale was very satisfactory with all poppies sold. Plans were made for the annual picnic on Monday June 23 at Rittman Park. A social hour followed the meeting with games and stunts by Mrs Wheeler, Mrs Boling and Mrs Breece. Sherbet and cookies were served by the refreshment committee.

The regular meeting of the D. of A. dodge will be held in their hall on Thursday, June 19. All members are asked to attend. There will be something special, some thing new. Lunch of ice cream and cake will be served.

A Thursday weighing session for babies and preschool children was held 1:30 to 4 at Rittman High School under Wayne County Health Nurse supervision from Wooster. Parents attended in large numbers and received appropriate advice on child health.

Road-Widening and Bridge Reconstruction Near Rittman Underway

Construction progresses on a two way pavement from the south end to Route 94 with No 36, including replacing three dangerous one way bridges south of town. A detour via Goetting's field serves heavy traffic as 401 cars per hour pass through Rittman. Planned summer widening of the Route 94 and 36 intersection gains state approval through the Rittman Automobile Club backing.

Becker Pastry Shop Opens in Rittman

Becker Pastry Shop opens at 179 South Main Street in Rittman with William Becker, a veteran baker, as proprietor. He pledges best service and French pastries with wedding and birthday cake orders, assisted by his wife Mrs. Becker, who comes from Seville. The Whitehouse Lunch Room may be sold to focus on the new pastry shop.

Motorcycle Riders Gather for Northeastern Ohio Gypsy Tour

Northeastern Ohio motorcycle riders plan a June 16 gathering in Wade worth for one of the era’s largest Gypsy Tours. The 23rd annual Fixler family reunion was hosted by Mr and Mrs Clad Few near Sharon Center. Ninety five attended with next gathering set for June 1931 at Warren Qhip the home of Mr and Mrs Floyd Fixler. Floyd Fixler elected president with Mrs E C Schumacher as secretary and treasurer. Mrs Newcomer Dies After Long Christian Life in Wadworth

Mrs. Sarah Newcomer died Thursday morning at 150 due to heart trouble. Born April 4 1844 in Leatonla Columbiana County Ohio, she married Abraham Newcomer in 1866 and lived in Wadworth, leaving a daughter Mary and eight grandchildren. A devout Mennonite, she and her husband served 47 years as deacon and church members. funeral held at Mennonite Church with Rev A S Cond officiating.

Otterbein Guild Holds Monthly Meeting in Central Park

The Otterbein Guild of the United Brethren Church of Rittman met at Central Park last Tuesday evening with 27 girls present. The gathering had a picnic spirit and included a hamburger fry provided by Mrs. Kaghler's group, winners of a church contest.

BE. F. Murphy of Seville will move to Cleveland to take a dispatcher position with the Rapid Transit Co. in the Terminal building. He has served as first-trick dispatcher for the C. S. & C. R.R. for six years. His family stays until September before joining him in Cleveland.

Firemen Plan July Fourth Celebration Program

Rittman Fire Department plans a large open air Fourth celebration with a dawn start and a grand fireworks display for over 10,000 attendees. The event features boxing matches, a heavyweight bout, stunts, games, and a mammoth fireworks show, with committee leaders Ed Milln Wm Logbauer and A L Carpenter overseeing scheduling and logistics.

Birthday Committee Hosts Pythian Junior Program

The Birthday Committee of the Pythian Slaters staged a Wednesday evening kid program with vaudeville acts by Juniors. Prizes honored best costumes while Mrs J B Hickin and Mrs E G Newberry hosted the piano. Games finished the amusements and a lunch was served by Mrs Warren Hardgrove and Mrs Gua Beery.

Funeral Attendants Return From Jacobsburg

Mr and Mrs Sue Smith and Mr and Mrs Howard Smith return home Sunday from Jacobsburg Ohio after attending the funeral of Charles Powell nephew of Mrs Lee Smith. Powell was killed when a truck driven by his father left the road and went over an embankment.
