Congress unanimously approved a 1.4 million annual grant to the National Cancer Institute for investigations into cancer causes diagnosis and treatment. The move makes the U.S. the world leader in cancer spending amid 400000 cases and 140000 deaths yearly.
Loss Walker, associate editor of Loberty Magazine, described as the Evangelist of Commerce, will speak at 2 o clock at the band shell. The Community Picnic committee chose him for his broad experience and speaking ability.
Community directory project aims for about 2000 listings covering Rittman and Milton Township with details on households, occupations, and rural addresses. A mid summer press date, free copies for households, and a two year circulation are planned along with a two day picnic program featuring prizes, entertainment, and public events coordinated by local merchants and volunteers.

In Rittman a family marks a triple birthday with Teosone Wade and Jay Rohrer born on July 31 at the Ohio Street corner home. Mrs Rohrer first observed the date while John Rohrer, husband and Her shey Rohrer partner, runs the household with a baby and an invalid. Wade 22 and Jay 19 also work for the Ohio Salt Co. The event has been a novelty for 19 years with no special plans this year.
