Doylestown hosts its annual Homecoming starting Wednesday July 26 at 7 pm with a grand parade from Clinton Street to Chippewa Memorial Park. A Homecoming Queen will be chosen by town ballots and will reign over Memorial Park festivities through Saturday. The event includes an old fashioned Band Concert and a parade float contest with Lions Firemen and American Legion sponsors.

Republicans To Seek Candidates At City Hall Meeting
Local Republicans will seek candidates for mayor council and school board at a City Hall gathering on Tuesday July 25 at 8 pm in the Council chambers. Names already tied to school board include Lawrence Wilmot Norbert Reffert and William Mays. Incumbent Homer Castor has taken out petitions but not filed. Five people have shown interest for six council seats with incumbents Ashton Hall Andrew Banders Karl Melenbacker and Avery Kinch announcing runs. James Witzberter has taken petitions for a council post. Petition access is at City Hall.

PCA Shipment First In Toledo
Swedish pulp from Sweden arrived as the first cargo to enter Toledo Foreign Trade Zone aboard the Swedish Chicago Line ship Birget Ragne. About 800 tons were unloaded with three fourths staged in the zone for months before trucking to Packaging Corporation of America, the rest sent to Presque Isle’s No 6 dock for immediate shipment to Rittman. This marks the port authority’s new berthing facility first use.
