Recreation Board Plans Program and Decisions

The recreation board met to pay bills and discuss plans. They noted outstanding utilities and supplies and approved the bills. Tennis court surfacing was postponed to next year. Plans for an August 1 boxing show and posters were discussed. New ice skating rink site search was ordered for winter after abandoning field skating. Promoter and civic group discussions planned for a Cleveland Indians game trip. Meeting night was moved to the first Tuesday. Croquet court placement was considered after adjournment.

Playground Reopens At Central Park With Busy Day

After weeks of idleness the Central Park playground equipment was put to use again on Saturday. Children such as Dale Caler Mary Lou Swigart and Duane Shook joined the scene along with Bertha Hickin and Virginia Gebhart at Kittman’s tennis courts.

Bodager wins junior title in Rittman tennis tournament

Rittman junior champion Bill Bodager defeated Mervin Stoelmiller in straight sets 6-3 6-2 on Tuesday morning. Senior Bars Tennis moved into second round action with Henry Tompkins Wade Milford Richard Houck Harry Ditech and Jack McCullock advancing to quarter finals.

Man walks 45 minutes to renew yearly subscription

J D Baysinger 87 arrived at the Press Office on Wednesday morning after leaving his Wadsworth Easton Road home at 5 15 am. He walked to Doylestown Road then to Rittman arriving in 45 minutes, stopped to chat with G W Holm on Main Street, then renewed a subscription and placed a classified ad at the office. He appeared lively though sore.

Miss Mooney Attends Republican National Convention

Miss Laurabel Mooney the only Ritt man resident to attend the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia on June 27 accompanied by her uncle Governor John W Bricker who led the Ohio delegation into the hall as Wendell Willkie was nominated Republican candidate for president.

William Gigandet Dies Saturday Morning

William Gigandet, 17, died early Saturday after a stroke and infant paralysis. He lived with parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gigandet on Wright Street. Private funeral services were held Tuesday at Ebert Funeral Home with Rev. E S Hendrickson officiating. Burial was in St Anne's Cemetery. He is survived by two sisters and one brother.

First of Summer Boxing Draws 700 to Recreation

About 700 spectators filled the recreation field to view the Fourth of July boxing show at 9 p.m. in a sixtee n-fighter card at Rittmann's center-ring arena. Eight three-round bouts featured fighters led by Killer at 41 pounds and Tiger Kerr at 48, with close decisions and a pair of draws shaping the program.

Miss Mary Marshall, a 9 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs William M Marshall, led Mary Marshall and her Bachelorettes with Blue Paradise at Summit Beach Park Akron last Wednesday. Education Board Approves Janitor Monthly Salaries

Rittman Fire Dept Purchases New Pumper Truck

The Rittman Community Fire Department has bought a Seagraves pumper on a Chevrolet chassis. The truck, a 500 gallon pumper with 1900 feet of hose and rural fire fighting equipment, arrives late August and will be housed at the City Mall.
