The Rittman Auto Club launches a membership contest with prizes of 25, 15, and 10 dollars. Contestants must register with Secretary Garver before entry and receive subject details. Each of the three principal contestants must turn in twenty memberships. prizes awarded September 7.
Mike Miller was arrested by Marshal Mills last week and brought before Judge Jones on intoxication charges. The judge fined him five dollars plus costs. Miller claimed someone planted a liquor bottle on him, but the assertion was not accepted by the court.
D D Clarke, longtime freight agent at the Erie, was operated on for appendicitis at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital last Wednesday. He is recovering well and expected to be sent home soon barring complications.
Alex Thom announces the Standard Service Garage will open next week at the corner of Ohio Ave and State St. The long‑under‑construction building is a credit to a much larger outlook. Thom, formerly with Firestone in Akron, resigned last Saturday.
The funeral of Mrs Mary Reamater who died Tuesday June 28 was one of the largest ever held here with between five and six hundred attending services at the Hiranglical Apostolic church south of town.
Mrs J A Bender was operated on this Thursday morning at Wooster General Hospital for the removal of a tumor. The procedure proceeded without reported complications and she is resting in recovery.
Vance Hickin is spending time at his brother John Hickin’s residence, likely visiting or residing there for a period. No further details on purpose or duration available in the report.
A south of town crash left Mrs. Harry McCurdy dead and her husband badly hurt when a car traveling northbound sideswiped theirs and fled. Eugene Sagel escaped with minor cuts as the McCurdy vehicle, from Cleveland, rolled and skidded into a ditch. Sheriff and area officers searched for the other driver while McCurdy was taken to Wooster for treatment.
Medina County sheriffs and pros entered Raymond Bennett and declared a war on slot machines in the county. Last week H. Spear and Co. and W. Sommers of Chippewa Lake were arrested for operating machines in their business premises.
Mrs J J Gannon entertained two tables of bridge for house guests Mr and Mrs L Brown of Detroit Saturday evening. The Browns were guests over the holidays. It is reported the Housewives League uses 682 369 302 711 moth balls during the season.
Rittman plans a community picnic at Springfield Lake on August 13 a Saturday. The general arrangements committee expects factories to close so workers may attend and transportation will likely be by highway coaches.
The Reverend D. V. Herriott of Dallas announces his marriage to Miss Gertrude Marguerite Korn on Thursday June 13, 1927. The couple will reside at 641 West 207th Street Apt 1B New York City after July 15.
Orrville's local Drum and Bugle Corps joined the annual celebration with white uniforms and a creditable parade showing. Other corps from Wooster, Medina, and Orrville participated, delivering a strong marching and playing performance in the event.
Rittman, though not a deserted town, was extremely quiet on Independence Day as many residents were away in neighboring towns. No accidents or arrests were reported and the weather was clear and pleasant.
Robert M. Fosnight of Grogamburg Ohio elected superintendent of Milton township high school at Sterling. Allen Baumgardner re-elected as principal. Fosnight brings many years as teacher and supervisor, is married, and will move to Sterling soon to pursue a master’s degree.
A license to wed was issued last Saturday to Thomas Blosser and Gertrude Getz. Both have been residents of Rittman for some time and share a large circle of friends who wish them happiness in their marriage.
Lindberg is identified as the boy who adds the rep to the IntREPid project role.
The International C. E. Convention in Cleveland closed after a six day gathering with wide representation from many nations. About 15,000 participated in Tuesday's parade. Attendees included Reverend Ort and Platter, Joe Brown, Dr. Gregg, William Hershey, Florence Londy, Evelyn Harter, Doris and Edne Ash presk, Esther Branigan, Mrs W. G Spade, G H Clippinger, Margaret Brenneman and Nick Parris.
Mrs H R Dittenhafer of Canton Ohio sister of Rev E L Ortt pastor of Rittman First U B church died at Mercy Hospital June 24 after illness. She had been in poor health, sent to hospital for quiet and fast. Death was sudden from a paralytic stroke causing brain hemorrhage.
Mr and Mrs Charles J Rohrer entertained the Glub Thursday evening at the bridge club. The gathering was enjoyed by all attendees with a pleasant social tone and lively games.
Miss Ysa Kohler and James Harvey were married in a six o'clock Saturday ceremony at the Church of God parsonage in Smithville. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Kohler, is employed by The Arrow O Co in Wooster. The couple, who left for a Michigan trip after the ceremony, plan to reside in Wooster.
