Following the initiation of two candidates, the Eastern Star announced a meeting for June 30 to initiate more candidates. Rainbow Girls initiated two local candidates on June 29. A Masonic and Eastern Star picnic is planned for July 12 at Wooster Park. St John's Day included a breakfast and a musical program with contributions from Miss Marguerite Hoover and several Bauman family members. Rittman Explorers Learn Seafaring at Turkey Foot Lake
Nine Explorer Scouts and three adult advisors spent June 25 to 26 at the Turkey Foot Lake sea scout outpost. They rode in diesel launch and sailboats, rowed canoes, and crewed on racing sailboats arranged by C. E. Rhonemus, a Rittman attorney with a lake sailboat. The group swam, observed diving gear, and thanked Mr Rhonemus for the sailing opportunity.

Former Sterling Resident Dies in Wadsworth
Abel J. Krabill, 80, of Wadsworth and formerly of Sterling, died at his home Friday. He was brought to Sterling from France as a youth by his parents, attended Oberlin College, and later worked as a teacher and banker in Wadsworth. He is survived by his wife.

Union workers at Morton Salt Rittman plant voted to accept a new one year contract effective July 30 ending strike talk.
