Memorial first March of Dimes contribution in Rittman

The 1956 March of Dimes drive in Rittman begins with a memorial gift for Webster Mougey from friends of his grandson Herald Mougey. Co chairs report strong business solicitations and praise community clubs for booths at the January 24 Polio Carnival at Rittman High School. The event runs 7 to 9 p.m. with a cake walk led by Juni Mothers Club and a half hour musical program led by Carolyn Swope. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes fund in Rittman.

Local men held after tavern burglary arrest

Carl David Ross and Zane McLaughlin, both of North Seneca, were arrested at 4 40 am Wednesday by Rittman and Wadsworth police in the basement of the County Line Tavern. They confessed to burglaries including a Corner Tavern on Rt 5 and a Knoxville gas station. Ross also claimed a Florida car theft, while McLaughlin admitted a sporting goods store burglary near Akron. They will be bound over to the county grand jury.

Rittman High Coach Resigns to Join Columbus Firm

Donald Dupper, a teacher and football coach at Rittman High School for a year and a half, submitted his resignation to the Board of Education to take effect January 20. He will join Merrell Pharmaceutical Company in the Columbus area. Dupper and his family reside on W. Sunset Dr. He previously taught in Rocky River schools.

Marshallville boy wins third first baby race

Dele Harry Shelly, son of Delbert and Mrs Shelly, born January 12 at Dunlap Memorial Hospital Arravilla. He wins a $10 savings account from Commercial Banking and Trust Co in Doylestown as the first baby born in the Marshallville Doylestown area.

Seniors seek tenor chorus for PTA Showboat Minstrel

Freed Fords meet Sterling Farmers in the second round of the Wayne County Invitational Polio Tournament at Orrville High School gym Tuesday Jan 24. Firefighters Respond to Two Early Morning Blazes

Firemen answered a call to Hugo Heaper County Road 57 after 8 am Tuesday due to a mouse electrocuting itself in an electric stove. Damage to the home was slight while the mouse suffered extensive damage. Earlier Monday evening firefighters attended a fire at the Ohio Boxboard plant in a baler with minor damage.
