Jacob Kaufman 84 former Ohio Boxboard Company employee died Monday night at Wayne County Hospital after a year there. He was born in Milton Town Rittman area. Survived by son Arthur Medina and a grandson. Wife May Belle died last February. Burial Pioneer Memorial Cemetery. Funeral at Gillman Funeral Home Thursday 2 PM with Rev. Albert Henry officiating. Friends may call Wednesday 7 PM at the funeral home.

Planning officials weigh new directional signs on State Route 57 to direct motorists to Rittman rather than Wadsworth after a letter from Father Clarence Liederbach and a response from the Ohio Department of Highways. The Planning Commission moves to seek a meeting with state highway officials to improve crossings and exits for Rittman.
Three candidates were narrowed to a finalist group for the 1967 Citizen of the Year with the winner to be announced at the chamber of commerce dinner in Rawiga County. Judges selected a minister as master of ceremonies and a local pastor will give the invocation. Three chamber directors will be elected from six candidates at the same event.
Rittman board of education approved a 1968 temporary budget of 949 201 plus 82 512 for bond retirement and 59 700 for lunchroom costs, totaling 1 091 413. Salaries for 76 teachers and staff, plus maintenance, principals and superintendent, plus fuel and other expenses are itemized. The board advanced the clerk treasurer’s salary to 5 408 and renewed her contract. Superintendent Hauenstein said Head Start funding dates may shift to April. Dorothy Copas was released as speech therapist and will relocate with her husband to Peru.
Packaging Corporation of America announces promotions at the Rittman mill. Bud Rupp is named operations director with a long service record since 1952 and ties to the Rotary Club and Rittman Chamber of Commerce. Frank E. Bush is appointed maintenance superintendent after decades with the company including roles in maintenance and instrumentation.
Dr. Donald E Rose was installed as chief of staff at Orrville Community Osteopathic Hospital during a special meeting. Retiring chief Dr. Virgil Rose presented the gavel. The new chief will appoint committees to be announced.
Wayne County Joint Vocational School board honors Superintendent W H Hauenstein and board member Robert E West for shaping the new vocational school. Ronald Woyat of Rittman is sworn in as a new member. Budget and building plans discussed include a $2,992,000 project with John Kline as architect. The 1968 budget is set at $547,943 and meetings scheduled monthly.
Local Jaycees name new committees to manage projects in the coming winter. Tom Wertz chairs the Junior Achievement building committee with Robert Chenal and Kenneth Selbee. Dean Litman leads the Senior Citizens committee with Larry Huffman Tom Faber Nelson Howell and Stiner assisting. Selbee chairs Front Street pond use with Bill Thacker Tom Wertz and Ben Bodager as advisors. Sixteen members from Orrville Wooster and Doylestown Jaycees met at the JA building to plan a community program at Kenneys Cafeteria, Wooster, on Tuesday January 23. Distin guished Service Awards will be presented from each county chapter.
Hudson council meeting discusses 1968 police budget asking for pay boosts to retain officers. Critics point to costs for training uniforms and equipment while officials cite comparisons with nearby towns and a desire to maintain an image and quality force.
Members will meet Tuesday January 23 at 7 30 p m in the Rittman Savings Bank social room. Agenda includes the erection of two new trustees and the election of officers. Public invited.
Dimi Borisic, a longtime Ohio Boxboard Company employee who started in 1914, died Tuesday after residing at 102 East Ohio. Survived by his wife Sophia a son Mark Medina a daughter Yulla Sporer Bolse, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services set for Thursday at Gillman Funeral Home. Burial in St Ann Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening.
