Voters choose slogan for Rittman City with a Future

The Rittman chamber of commerce held a vote on a city slogan. After two ballots, Rittman the City with a Future won. Nina Weiker, The Wooster Daily News society editor, was the proposer of the winning line and received a $2.59 prize.

Express Service Delays Hit Rittman Shipment

A Bahner Press linotype package sent on train 7 failed to be delivered to Rittman due to a sleepy messenger. The box traveled west then east multiple times via Ashland Baberton Wadsworth and Rittman, finally reaching its destination after nine hours as the Erie line bungled the rail routing. Editor Hoover faced no mail for publication. Wells Fargo delivered a package in record time five miles from the depot.

Phillips and Miller Wed in Home Ceremony

Harry B. Phillips and Miss Caroline Miller were married Saturday evening January 10 at 8:30. The ceremony took place at Andrew J. Miller’s home on 2nd Street with Rev. A. B. Wilson of the United Brethren church officiating.

Village Solicitor Contract Changes in Rittman

The village council set a yearly solicitor budget of 200 including expenses due to expected heavy work ahead. A new solicitor was chosen by the mayor after designating his preferred candidate, a move defended as a duty of executives to favor effective governance.

The multi millionaire banker August Belmont and his son were arrested and fined $100 each for shooting deer without a license in a private preserve in South Carolina. The incident involved Belmont’s own preserve and prompted legal action by local authorities.

Council Meets in Adjourned Session Deliberations Continue

Council convened Monday evening at 7 with all members present except Swarts. They accepted a chamber of commerce request to assist in negotiating natural gas for Rittman. Fire Chief Hershey asked to be relieved. Turner to succeed Hershey per safety committee report. Ordinances for paving Main Street and a current expenses appropriation were passed.

Village approves Main Street paving contract in Ruthen State

A 1913 resolution authorizes The Obin Engineering Company to pave Main Street from the north corporation line to the tracks of the Gulomore and Ota Railroad. The project calls for machine laid stone curb, concrete base, and tar filler, with work to begin after formal approval.

Rittman Ohio to Issue 11000 Street Improvement Bonds

An ordinance authorizes the village of Rittman to issue eleven thousand dollars in street improvement bonds to fund Main Street works from the North corporation line to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad tracks. Bonds dated March 15, 1914, pay 5 percent interest with scheduled annual redemptions through successive years.
