City council approves a 1966 budget totaling 360,929.63 with the police department receiving 61,690 and sewer 56,909. Water 53,320 and city salaries 51,890. Other large allocations include street lighting 16,000, general repair 47,445, cemetery 12,050, fire 11,000, pool 7,500, recreation 10,500, and mosquito control 4. The measure accompanies an urban renewal study.
Rittman Fine Arts Foundation presents a sacred and classical program at the Ashland College Chapel Choir with The Ivy Leaguers at Rittman High School auditorium. The 64-voice group conducts Brahms, Casals, Lotti, Pachelbel, and Ness Beck under Calvin Y. Rogers with a lighter second half featuring nursery rhymes and My Fair Lady selections plus a negro spiritual and Roger Wagner arrangement by The Ivy Leaguers.
Wil ford Blatter of Rittman was reelected president of the Milton Township Trustees at the annual reorganization meeting held at the Sterling fire station. C. G. Haulk of Rittman was named vice president. Earl Studer becomes road supervisor and Menno Ressler a truck driver. Regular meetings are set for the first Tuesday at 7:30 at the Sterling fire station. A meeting with the Wadsworth Rittman Hospital board is planned for Jan. 19 at 7:30 in the hospital dining room. Annexation talks with Rittman city officials were discussed.
A nine person charter review commission was approved to re examine the city charter the first since adoption six years ago Lewis K Burnett will chair the group joined by Jim Frye Norbert Reffert A J Grant Paul Mogler George Sandrock Ed Brophe Allan Broadhurst and Harold Brown William Cecil was named to the civil service commission Mrs John Zivick to the parks and recreation board Howard Clippinger reappointed to the cemetery board Glen Parman to the shade tree commission and John Zivick to the planning and zoning commission An ordinance allowing the city manager to seek bids for a vacant State Street lot next to the Junior Achievement building was approved after third reading The site was excess property from a school board land deal connected to Hugh L Strickland who plans a new post office nearby next spring
Regular meetings will be held Tuesday at 7 30 PM at North Street School in Rittman.
The Chamber plans its annual Citizen of the Year dinner at Rawiga Country Club on Thursday January 20 with speaker Robert Bob Brownson famed coach and fundraiser. Sixteenth Citizen of the Year will be awarded and local barbershop group will provide music.
Rittman Board of Education plans a bond issue of 1 185 000 for a new high school building remodeling of existing structures and 175 000 for furniture and improvements. The plan would require about 4.5 mills to service bonds over 10 to 30 years.
The Rittman United Fund board elected Lewis K Burnett as chairman for the coming year and named Allan J Broadhurst and Mrs Ralph Gwaltney to three year terms. Broadhurst becomes vice president and Mrs Gwaltney fund secretary-treasurer. Raymond Mullet will chair the Community Fund for this year.
The city council rejected a Citizens' Committee on Urban Renewal plan by a 4-2 vote drawing applause from residents south of town. The motion to pursue a federal grant for an engineering survey was debated, with some council members urging a public referendum on any renewal program.
PTA will host a talk on Whats New in Math by Mrs Helen Moore and Donald Ritchie at Rittman High School on Thursday January 20. The session will use illustrated problems and may include a film with a $5 prize for best solution. entertainment also planned.
Rittman Band Parents will gather in the high school band room on Monday at 7 30 for a planning meeting.
An arcade of small stores is being built at the Rittman Shopping Center north of Family Drug Store. Glass windows are being installed. a pedestrian bridge spans Landis Creek to 77 Sunset Lanes, enabling easy shopping and bowling access. Local firms handle glass plumbing electrical and woodwork as negotiations for a general department store continue.
Services for Laura Dawn Mullin 16 months daughter of Mr and Mrs George Mullin of Creston were held at the Creston church. The child died at home since birth. Survived by parents three brothers David Steven and Bruce and grandparents Mr and Mrs George S Mullin of Seville RD. Burial followed at Creston with Rev Loren Kuhn officiating.
