Ritter Leads Rittman School Board in 1942 Meeting

Melvin R Ritter was named head of the Rittman Board of Education at a Monday night organizational session in the Heb-school building. H R Squibbs named vice president. Mrs Bessie Schumacher kept as clerk with a small raise. New members Bedager Shong and Squibbs sworn in. W W Schwartz and Harald Brown retire. A budget of 66335 is approved, with increases in equipment and building maintenance. Mrs Ray B Rogers resigns as teacher and returns as substitute instructor.

Rittman to Erect Honor Roll Bulletin Board on Square

A bulletin board listing Rittman and Milton township boys serving Uncle Sam will be set at the northeast public square corner. George Harris of the American Legion and Howard A Bair Post announce the display will be ready within ten days, sponsored by the Legion and the Rotary club. Rittman Women Enroll in Red Cross First Aid Course

Twenty young women from Rittman have enrolled in a Red Cross sponsored First Aid course. The first meeting was held Thursday night at city hall with Red Cross instructors planning to recruit volunteer fire department members.

Galehouse Receives Regional Civilian Defense Post

James B. Galehouse of Rittman has been named a regional instructor in fire fighting under civilian defense. A delivery letter says he must report to Columbus for a State University school to qualify and to serve in Ashland, Medina, and surrounding counties, visiting communities with fire prevention and civilian defense programs.

Sterling High Plans Athletic Carnival at Gym Next Tuesday

Sterling High School student council plans the first annual Athletic Carnival in the gym next Tuesday night January 13 at 8 pm. Events include basketball games boxing tests stunts crowning of the carnival queen and drum majorettes in new uniforms. Queen candidates named by the student body are Mamie Adams Mary Lou McConnell Dorothy Studer Ruth Moore Emma Jean Craig and Dorothy Blough. Tickets for adults and children will be sold at the box office with proceeds going to a school fund.

D W Thompson Debuts as Rittman High Coach Friday

D W Thompson will debut as Rittman High basketball mentor in Friday’s Wooster Indian tilt. A former Barnesville and Salinesville coach, he brings a man to man defense and a two set offense focused on high percentage shots. Thompson, married with two sons, recently joined Rittman after teaching and coaching junior high.

Bodager Named to Wayne County Tire Coordinating Board

W W Bodager, local businessman, was named to the three member coordinating board of Wayne County villages and their tire rationing boards. The Wayne County meet with Wooster officials elected M C Heller as tire coordinator and J M Ginter to represent Wooster. City Officials To Be Given Oath On Wednesday Night

City officials in Rittman will be sworn in at a Wednesday City Hall meeting after a delay caused by the annual Jackson Day banquet in Wooster. Mayor John W Baldwin announced new treasurer Mrs Sylvia B Hardgrove has already taken over duties. Other new officials set to be sworn include Magee, Ray Hartzler, BisiE Brophy, Roy Forrer, K W Osborne, E C Peete and Clarence Bruny, who replace retiring councilmen. Mayor Baldwin will also announce 1942 appointments at the same session.

Rittman Man To Be Buried Friday After Pneumonia Death

Levi Rauschenberg, 71, died Tuesday afternoon at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital after four days with pneumonia. The body was moved to the Justin Shoal home for viewing from 7 to 9 p m Thursday. Survived by two sons Mary R of Easton Ellen R of Bter Ung and daughter Mrs Ether Bode son of Portland Ohio Mia Chase of Creston and Mrs Bula Bhook of Rittman. Wife preceded him in death. Funeral for Mrs Fern Reynolds of Sterling Monday

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Sterling United Brethren church for Mrs Fern Reynolds 63 who died of a heart attack Friday night. Burial followed at Crown Hill cemetery.
