Rittman Indians Hold Off Sterling 51-39 in Local Bid

Rittman High Indians returned from a holiday layoff to defeat Sterling High 51-39 on the local court. Joe Stefanica led Rittman with 19 points, Neal Milford added 13, while Bob Eshler paced Sterling with 18. The Indians built a 10 point edge by period end and sustained it through the final quarter.

Indians face tall centers this weekend

Coach Ashton Hall’s Rittman High Indians hit the road Friday January 3 at Greensburg to face center Jim Wertz and a four win Greensburg squad. Saturday January 4 they host undefeated Dalton in a Wayne County Class B test led by Dick Smith and contributors Dick Rosenberger and Basil Evans.

Friccius Takes Job at Cedar Rapids Press

George Friccius of W Ohio Ave leaves Dec 30 for a new role at Lawrance Press Co in Cedar Rapids Iowa. He ran the Kelly press at Press Publishing Co for 18 months and is a past master of a Masonic lodge. His wife and two children will stay in town until spring. He previously worked at B W Co lathe for armed forces during the war.

Week of Prayer Services at Milton Presbyterian Church

The Week of Prayer will be observed at Milton Presbyterian Church with daily services Sunday through Friday at 7 30 pm in the church auditorium. Rev Dwight B Davidson will preach on Prayer with topics such as The Call to Prayer The Practice of Prayer The Prayer of Jesus The Prayer of the Sinner The Prayer of the Righteous The Prayer for Others and The Answered Prayer. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be administered Sunday morning Jan 12. An invitation is extended to all who wish to attend.

Legion Team Trips Sterling Farmers 69-51

Rittman s Legion basketball team defeated Sterling Farmers 69 to 51 on January 1, marking the Farmers first defeat this season. Legion improved to 3-7, led by John Miller with 21 points and Wade Milford with 20, while Art Maibach led Sterling with 19. Next Friday the Legion face Easton Painters in Doylestown after a prior 54-39 win. New warm up jackets were presented by Bob Wenger of Wenger Oil Company.

First Baptist Church Radio and Sunday Schedule

At press time one 1947 baby reported in Rittman and vicinity. Virgil Mullins and wife welcomed Richard Eugene a 7% Ib. boy born January 1 at 7 21 am at the Mullins home. Fourth child. Mullins works at Ohio Box board. Gifts offered by local merchants if first 1947 birth in area.

Jane Williams Weds Albert Pelfrey on New Year’s Day

Miss Jane Williams daughter of Mr and Mrs W C Williams married Albert G Pelfrey son of Mr and Mrs E Pelfrey in the First Baptist Church at 2 30 PM New Year’s Day. Rev W F Echols officiated with Lowell Batwright singing. The couple will reside with the bride’s parents after a trip to Pennsylvania.

First Brethren Church Announces Services and Prayer Request

The First Brethren Church led by Rev Ord Gehman schedules Sunday School at 9:30 with Bro William Brown as general superintendent. Services at 10:30 and 7:30 in the morning and evening, both led by the Cleveland Hebrew Mission. Sgt Bernard Adams Discharged After 19 Months Aboard

Sgt Bernard Adams is discharged from Fort Dix New Jersey after 19 months in the army, nine of which were served in Germany. The release concludes his military service.

Housing units completed and available for veterans

A total of 48 applications were received for 12 housing units completed on January 16. Veterans chosen to occupy the units must pay one month's rent in advance. Eligibility will consider housing need, family size, and family income.

E G Branigan announced the charter night ceremonies for Mantua Rotary at a luncheon held last Thursday. The report notes Nick Bostos, previously a patient at Marine Hospital Cleveland, was moved this week to the hospital at Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois.
