The Church of Christ seeks clothing donations for flood victims, listing needed undergarments and sizes for boys and girls. Call for pick up or drop off at the church. Rittman High School Bands will present a Winter Concert Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Middle School Gym with all bands participating. admission is free.
A robin sighting by Mr and Mrs Charley Barnes sparks speculation about an early arrival in the Chippewa Valley area. The Friendly Mothers Club meets March 3 in the Chippewa Valley Bank room with egg decorating by Marilyn Ditch. Also noted are birth announcements, a hospital healing note, birthday wishes, and a salad smorgasbord at First Church of God on February 28 with varied ticket prices.
The American Legion post in Rittman sponsors a fish fry on February 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. Fresh Lake Erie perch will be served. Adults pay 2.50 dollars and children 75 cents.
Parents may register from March 10 to March 21 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at North Street or West Hill schools. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 by Sept 30 and those entering first grade must be 6 by Sept 30. A birth certificate is required for all first-time pupils.
Record of weekend and Monday rainfall flooding Rittman with streets closed. Front Street hardest hit with evacuations. Industrial Street and Ohio Avenue submerged. Church and community groups provided aid. Red Cross staffed with nurse. fire and police battled water with portable pumps.
Harry W. Schaad 75 died Sunday at Woodlawn Nursing Home Mansfield where he had lived a year. Born Feb 10 1900 in Burbank he worked at Ohio Boxboard Co in Rittman then Bartges Bros Papermill in Catonsville for 19 years retiring in 1962. He was a charter member of Rittman Moose Lodge No 860. Surviving sons Robert Mansfield and Gerald Catonsville Md a sister and four grandchildren. Services at Gillman Funeral Home 11 a m Wednesday with calling hours Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial Crestlawn Baltimore Md. Moose Lodge observed services Tuesday night.
Walter F. Schorle age 83 of Easton Road died Wednesday evening at home after a short illness. Born April 24, 1891 in Milton Township to Jacob and Mary Leichty Schorle he was a lifetime area resident and a farmer who retired ten years ago. Survived by wife Ella two daughters Faye Telford of Rittman and Marguerite Schorle at home a brother John of Sterling three sisters Edith and Dorothy Schorle and Fannie Miller and two grandsons. Services were held Saturday at Gillman Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Watt officiating. Burial Hoover Cemetery.
Northeast Ohio artists are invited to enter the 10th annual art show at Rittman City Hall from April 24 through 27. Up to five works per artist, no entry fee. Dale E. Hartzler re-elected chair with Frey, Zivick, Kanengeiser, and Bigler as officers.
Rittman Apple Festival committee held a meeting to fund festival planning expenses. A summer raffle will be held with Mrs. Johnson of the Three Arts Club as raffle coordinator. Various local clubs will handle parade, cleanup, Queen Contest, electricity, products, tickets, booths, and related duties.
Mary Louise Smith, chair of the Republican National Committee, will speak at the Wayne County Lincoln Day banquet March 19 at the Lowery Center in Wooster. Cona Williams of Rittman says a reception for Mrs. Smith precedes the event and tickets are available from Mrs. Williams.
From the Pennsylvania Packet via New York in 1775 detailing the King’s speech to Parliament. It notes Massachusetts Bay unrest, measures to enforce laws, and the view that the king’s speech is a deadly threat to colonial resistance.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Rittman at the American Legion Hall on Thursday March 6 1975 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. The drive aims for 150 pints and urges first time donors alongside regulars. Eligible 17 and 18 year olds may donate with a parent consent form from school or Legion. Transportation is available and appointments can be arranged by calling Mrs Arthur Bodager at 925-3212 or walk in.
City residents pin water woes on the Rittman Waste Paper Plant as a landfill raises the junkyard, creating flood risk from open drainage. Neighbors consider civil suits, while council debates zoning, radar use, street by street parking, recreation funding, and sidewalk control.

Judy Foltz a senior at Rittman High school won the Voice of Democracy contest. Her Canton district essay argues citizenship duties and loyalty to country, friends, and constitutional rights, emphasizing free speech press religion and peaceful assembly.
