Heiks Home Scene Surprise Party for Anniversary
A joint farewell party to honor Mrs Karl Derhammer and Mr J Heiks on their wedding anniversary was hosted at the Heiks home on State Street. Relatives from Akron Wooster Orrville and Rittman attended a late evening gathering with a planned program at 7:80. Guests enjoyed a hearty meal with hot dishes, potatoes, fruit cake and coffee followed by candy and cigars. The couple received a radio lamp and a pewter tray as gifts, and time was spent in conversation and cards.

Sterling Schools Honor George Washington Bicentennial Program
An appreciative audience attended Sterling school's George Washington Bicentennial program Monday evening in the school auditorium. The first part featured the first six grades under Misses Marie Bixel Reba Kissinger and Lucille Jordan, followed by A Pageant of the Stars and Stripes by the seventh and eighth graders directed by Rex P. Lindecamp with the Glee Club. Two World War veterans, F. G. Reese and Gustave Giet, appeared in the pageant. Upper classes displayed framed Washington portraits and C. M. Jennings presented a portrait to be displayed in the auditorium. Supt. S. M. Miller accepted the portraits. Patriotic music by the Sterling high school band under Lindecamp accompanied acts.

Auto Accident East of Wadsworth On Route 17
At about 4 30 p m Monday two cars collided east of Wadsworth on route 17. Both vehicles were traveling east but the right truck ended up upside down and headed west after the crash. The Chrysler 27 owned by Baron Atkins of Wadsworth overturned a ditch and struck a telephone pole. Drivers escaped with only minor injuries. one car had just been purchased at Hayes Arnold garage. The incident left both cars wrecked and the pole damaged.

Mary Horst a longtime Rittman resident died early Friday at the Tibbet home in Drumswith Ohio at age 84. Funeral services were held Monday at the church with burial at Rittman cemetery. She owned the Mary Horst farm for years and was a valued music teacher in the area.
