Second Annual Farmers Institute Lights Up Poor Weather

The Second Annual Farmers Institute at the Rittman opera house drew a packed Saturday crowd for The Prairie Rose performance by the Progressive Country Club. Despite bad weather reducing attendance Friday and Saturday morns, the event offered music by the Rittman high school orchestra and debates, with officers U. G. Sheets as president and E L Dalabahn as secretary.

Power lin e proposal moves forward on Sterling avenue

Connell met Mondays with Broader group to discuss building a power line from the CoS Woo& C transforming station on Sterling avenue to the municipal project site by agreement. A resolution was adopted and arrangements were made to light North First street to the public school building. Bulls were ordered paid and adjourned.

Patriotic Exercises Honor George Washington at School

Pupils and teachers from all rooms gathered in the school auditorium Tuesday afternoon to honor George Washington. About 90 people attended as the event drew a capacity crowd of women and children. Because many men could not attend, the program will be repeated with additions on the evening of March 7 with a small admission to raise funds for the project. Each room presented a distinct program and the pupils’ efforts were praised.

Aged Resident Dead In Medina County

William L. Houseworth aged 83 died at his son TL Ko Houseworth's home on Pleasant Street early Saturday morning. Born in Pennsylvania, he had lived in Medina County for many years and recently resided with his son due to ill health. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with brief house services and further rites at the Old Mennonite Church. burial followed in the adjacent cemetery.

Evangelistic Meetings Build Interest Amid Strong Sermons

Reports note continued interest in revival services led by Rev. Miller at the Presto church with strong Gospel presentation, songs, and new converts. Next week’s schedule includes men’s sermon on “Slaying the Beasts” and a Sunday night message on “The Tragedy of Trading.” Also listed are Wayne County Board meeting notices and a school discussion program led by Judge Orr and F W Pearson.

Obituary for Winworth Houstworth of Rittman and Mennonite faith

Winworth Houstworth born August 24, 1832 in Bucksea Pennsylvania died February 19, 1916 at 83. He married Mary D Kindy on August 20, 1854 and lived in Mountville township Mading county before moving to Rittman with his son Henry. Survived by three sons Henry Alfred and Elmer and daughter Cora Leatherman, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. wife died nineteen years earlier. He fought as a Civil War soldier in Co BE 166th C V L and was a lifelong threshing worker and Mennonite church member until health prevented attendance last fall. Burial followed at the adjoining cemetery after services at his home and Mennonite church west of Blake. Rev. W S Shelly officiated.

Eighth Graders and Freshmen Battle in Debut Interclass Game

The first interclass basketball contest in the new gymnasium was played Friday between the Freshmen and Eighth grade. The opener featured fast play with no scoring early, then the Eighth grade posted the first two points. Both teams showed determination to win as the game progressed.
