Residents urged to conserve as city crews work on the North Met Web Avenue reservoir project. Crews begin at 4 a.m. and expect to work all day to finish the task, officials said. Charles Mann of the water department noted no standby operation in place.
A Rittman industrial supervisor among 11 attendees spent a week at Wittenberg University in a Management Development Program on Supervisory Interviewing and Counseling. Other local officials joined Presbyterial and garden club events with talks and community activities listed for Wooster, Sterling, and Rittman.
The Rittman community cherishes Nelson Sheets at 2 South Fourth Street as its devoted basketball enthusiast. Thomas Davis of Barberton will be offered a teaching contract this weekend to replace Fred Hoe nicke, who resigned and moved to St Louis. Davis, a Bowling Green University graduate, teaches social studies, speech and English. Mrs. James Frye substituted for Hoe nicke this week. Hoe nicke has taken a job with McGraw-Hill Book Company as a salesman.
Local leaders worry over candidate shortage as August 3 filing deadline nears. Incumbents including Mayor Houglan and several councilors weigh re election options while party structures fade and a non partisan charter changes the field. Other council members consider terms and school board seats are also on the ballot in November.
Doylestown Mayor Raymond Cleckner orders Safety Committee to study an issue of parking on old Route 5 downtown. He also directs police to tow or ticket unlicensed cars left in village lots if not removed within two weeks. Council discusses combining clerk and treasurer roles and marshal and street commissioner duties to cut costs.
Rittman High School speech team won three firsts and a second in the Class B district contest in Canton Lehman High School. Bette Lance and Ruth Noble earned firsts for dramatic reading and oration, Madeline Booth won with an original oration, and David Fry took second for humorous reading. Coach Fred Hoenicke resigned prior to the contest. Mrs. James Frye will lead until a replacement is hired. The four entries repeated their winning pieces at the Dramoa Festival and were invited to a future event.
