The week notes a bank and rural baith closure on a birth commemoration for George V Washingtesa, and reports Elmer Nelle's death affecting the Rizor family. It covers a thriving community sale, local merchants, and the launch of the Rittman Automobile Club with about two hundred attendees and planned road campaigns.
Untitled report notes no former service man in Rittman had received a bonus check by Saturday of last week. Anxiety grows over when payments will start arriving. Only one check had reached Wayne county, to a Wooster resident. Mailings began from Columbus and Rittman veterans should receive theirs soon.
Mrs Joseph Strawser, of Industrial avenue and Wright street, was brought home from Wadsworth Municipal Hospital earlier this week after an appendectomy. The operation was successful and she is recovering well. Mrs Strawser was formerly Miss Mamie Christian and her family expresses gratitude for her speedy recovery.
Hawawell and Stein relocate their barber shop from the Wela Block to the Hull Block after two or three years in the former site. The move by Senalliyel and Stein is described as necessary and is now complete.
Residents of Rittman and vicinity donated corn and cash to the Friends Service Committee. In Rittman $14,000 in cash and 4700 pounds of corn arrived at Hershey & Rohrer warehouse under Harry Liechty. The district totals reach 191,000 pounds of corn and $88,000 in money with 150 helpers. Other Ohio areas are contributing to the appeal for famine relief in Russia.
The Mt Hermon Weld Pie church men’s class held its fellowship meeting last Wednesday in the church parlors. Attendance was strong despite other events, with two month cadence and growing interest. The social committee managed coffee service as part of the program.
The Ritman Board of Education approved a contract in early 1922 to Wool Chikdr for rewiring and lighting both the Marnst and the new high school. Work began in January and fixtures were installed by February, improving visibility during cloudy dawns and protecting students’ eyes. Superintendent E.O. Mason highlighted the improvements during an evening for patrons as part of a Parent Teachers program.
Wayne County Court of Common Pleas convenes its term with judges and officials addressing a backlog of cases. Judge Starn continues the session, signaling ongoing proceedings to clear the docket as weather permits.
Effective February 1 1922 port masters must obtain signatures upon delivery of insured parcel post packages. The measure adds protection to parcel post and aligns it more with the Hemistry System. Postmaster Longenecker supports safeguarding but notes it adds duty, service, and responsibility.
Galehouse and Wein Real Estate Agency will relocate to the Wein Block joining Halliwell and Stein Barber Shop and Weintoon's Pool Room. The agency’s new quarters will be larger and better located at 182 Feast Bit. The move date for Renal Future Agency is not yet set.
The sheriff sale of Roy Henderson plumbing shop stock did not occur as announced. Federal agents announced Henderson’s bankruptcy by the Cleveland district court and placed the stock under U S government control with Murray S Parker named bankruptcy receiver in Akron.
The Akron automobile show at the Central garage in Akron Ohio runs this week after starting last Saturday. The venue offers vast floor space the greatest of any U S garage, promising dealers ample room. Attendees report pronounced success and say any car make is on view.
Local Hidits of Perlis held an open meeting inviting townsfolk and visitors. A three piece orchestra provided entertainment with songs and dialogue. Prizes and favors were awarded, and a prepared message from Cardinal O Connell of Boston was read to Americans emphasizing prosperity and unity postwar.
The Barberton Brae agency confirms Yoder will assume the Barberton office next Monday after a 90 day leave in successor to Celurn. Yoder, long in charge of the Teal/Rittman office, is praised for hard work and broad support, and will relocate to lead the Barberton operation amid regional changes.
The Rim an Automobile Club Executive Board met Tuesday evening at Fredrick's garage with most members present except Karl Hoover and Ezra Steiner. A full club meeting is planned for next Wednesday at 7 20 PM for interested members. Aaron Wolf, employed at Wick Shock Lumber Co, lost his right index finger Tuesday near noon while at work and the thumb of the same hand was bruised with no further damage.
The Milton Township Parm Bureau held its first regular meeting at Milton Center school house on February 16 with overflow attendance. The purchasing committee was instructed to buy fertilizer and seed potatoes, reporting two car loads of fertilizer and nearly one carload of potatoes. Twine purchases were discussed with no definite action. The program featured discussions on pure bred stock and talks by Wilson Steele and Arthur Steele, plus a literary program of songs and recitations. E R McConnell spoke on spraying. The meeting adjourned late.
The Arat automobile show held in Wayne county took place last week in Johnson and Garman's spacious Wooster garage. All Wayne county autos were shown with a broad line of accessories. The Wooster dealer called the exhibit very successful and expected annual county seat showcases.
The Zellers of Sterling Ohio express heartfelt thanks to the Inited Brethren church and community for a generous anniversary donation. They cannot thank everyone personally but extend blessings to all.
Mr and Mrs John Matbach went to Mansfield Saturday where Mrs Matbach consulted a doctor. They expected to return to Rittman Sunday but the appendicitis attack kept them. Mr Matbach returned Monday evening and Mrs Matbach would stay longer. Mrs Waibach is improved and no operation was needed.
A Red Oak area farmer in Iowa killed a rabbit with two hornlike prongs on its carapace. He noted the horns were as long as the animal’s ears and joked that if grown in Ohio hunters might mistake it for a deer. A separate rental notice offers a 60 acre farm near Rittman starting April 1.
