Winkler, 70, Sterling area businessman, dies at Wadsworth Hospital
Joseph E. Winkler, 70, of Sterling area, died Friday at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital after a short illness. Born April 11, 1902 in Sardis, Ohio, he owned a building contracting business for 34 years after previously working at Morton Salt Co. Survived by wife Jessie, son Fred, daughters Jeannette Woyat and Anita Riggenbach, six grandchildren, and several siblings. Funeral services at Apostolic Christian Church of Rittman with burial in church cemetery. Also notes academic honor lists for local students, and Rittman PTO Fun Festival set for April 28.

Bob and Dick Gillman purchased a 1973 Vanguard ambulance for Rittman area rescue service. It is fully equipped with resuscitation gear and central oxygen and will transport two adults and one child. An emergency victim care course for area firemen and policemen is under way at Rittman Middle School led by William Snyder. Three Rittman firemen have earned EMT cards. The program aims to match Ohio standards with California Paramedic training. The Gillman brothers stress trained personnel on every call. The ambulance has seen daily use since delivery and is praised for its roomier interior. Lionel Bartram of Medina Street died unexpectedly at home aged 67. services planned at Gillman Funeral Home.

The bulletin notes Rittman residents faced water pressure drop on Tuesday when Morton Salt Co was repairing its own facilities and tapped city water, lowering levels in both the standpipe and ground level reservoirs. To restore standard levels the city cut Morton Salt Co from city water around noon Tuesday.

Rittman Man Nabbed In Stark County Burglary
Rittman resident Douglas M. Lavery, 23, of 114 S Main Street, was arrested last week by the Stark County Sheriff after allegedly breaking into Rice Pharmacy at 5558 Fulton Drive by chopping a roof hole.
